Shalom u'Vrachah!

...Regarding your writing about rectifying forgetting prayer, it is understood that first and foremost there must be regret for the past and a good resolution for the future, etc. In addition to this, one should be well-versed in the laws of prayer that are necessary for every individual (and not only those relevant to the chazzan, etc.). This was printed in "Shaarei Halacha U'Minhag" vol. II p. 224. To be well-versed in the laws of prayer: something similar is above in letter Tammuz 9, and as referenced in the notes there.

Summary

When correcting lapses in prayer, one must sincerely regret past mistakes, resolve to improve going forward, and study the practical laws of prayer that apply to everyone.
