In connection with the upcoming annual dinner of Merkaz HaYeshivos Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch on Sunday, Parshas Beshalach, 4 Shevat, G‑d willing, I turn to lovers of Torah in general and to the friends of the Lubavitcher Yeshivos in particular to utilize the coming weeks to ensure that this yearly undertaking is carried out successfully in all aspects — both financially and spiritually.

If every year a Jew must remember and fulfill his obligations regarding education al taharas hakodesh (pure holiness), then this year — a year of Hakhel (as discussed in this year's Rosh Hashanah letter) — is especially a time that calls upon all Jews, men and women, young and old, to strengthen educational institutions to the greatest extent.

The coming weeks until the annual celebration are especially illuminated by these radiant days — Yud-Tes Kislev and Chaf-Daled Teves — which are connected with the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch and founder of Chabad; and the celebration itself takes place during the week of Yud Shevat — the yahrzeit-hilulah of my revered father-in-law, the previous Rebbe, founder of Merkaz HaYeshivos T.T.L. here in this country — may his merit protect us.

It is well known how much all Chabad leaders throughout generations have emphasized Torah study and education al taharas hakodesh. It suffices to recall that the first book printed by the Alter Rebbe was Hilchos Talmud Torah (Laws of Torah Study), which right at its beginning brings down a halachic ruling that Jewish education begins from when a child starts to speak.

In this spirit, Lubavitcher Yeshivos take responsibility for educating Jewish children from their earliest youth through adulthood; an education aligned with Hakhel — lemaan yishme'u u'lemaan yilmedu veyir'u es Hashem v'shamru la'asos es kol divrei haTorah hazos (so that they will hear and so that they will learn and fear Hashem and observe all words of this Torah) — an education aimed at making those educated into educators themselves: "nerot le'ha'ir" (lights to illuminate), who brighten their entire surroundings with "ner mitzvah v'Torah or" (a mitzvah is a lamp and Torah is light).

I hope that all friends of Lubavitcher Yeshivos, headed by its activists — may they live — will mobilize all their strengths to ensure the success of this annual celebration which is so vital for the existence and further development of Lubavitcher Yeshivos. Whoever adds is granted additional blessing and success in everything needed materially and spiritually.
