באיחור זמן רב קבלתי מכתבו עם המצורף בו נוסח בקשת מחילה , ונכונה ההצעה על דבר פרסום הענין בממדים הכי גדולים, שהרי בקשת מחילה מחברו מהענינים העקריים הוא, וכדברי חכמינו ז"ל במשנתם בסיום וחותם יום הכפורים. ובודאי פנה בדבר זה לאירגוני ואגודות הרבנים השונים. כי אף שיש חשיבות בפרסום על ידי מכתבים, אבל בודאי אינו דומה באם יפרסמו הרבנים על דבר זה בהנאומים שלהם, והרי בשעת מעשה יש בידם לערוך בקשת המחילה של כל הנמצאים בעת הנאום וכולי.
שולח אני מכתבי זה באופן מהיר, כדי שיהי' עוד שהות לעשות בענין זה לפני יוהכ"פ.
מטעמים שונים אין לעת עתה בידי לצאת במכתב בתוכן שמציע או כיוצא בו, אף שבהתענינות מיוחדה קראתי את מכתבו.
בכבוד ובברכת חתימה וגמר חתימה טובה לכת"ר ולכל חברי ועד הרבנים שליט"א.

After a long delay I received your letter with the attached text of the request for forgiveness, and your suggestion about publicizing this matter on the largest possible scale is correct. Requesting forgiveness from one's fellow is one of the main matters, as our Sages said in their Mishnah at the conclusion and seal of Yom Kippur.
Certainly you have approached various rabbinic organizations and associations about this matter. For although there is value in publicizing through letters, it is certainly not comparable to having rabbis announce this in their speeches; at that moment they can arrange a request for forgiveness from all those present during the speech, etc.
I am sending this letter quickly so there will still be time to act on this before Yom Kippur.
For various reasons I am presently unable to issue a letter with the content you propose or something similar, even though I read your letter with special interest.
With honor and with blessings for inscription and sealing for good to your esteemed self and all members of the Rabbinical Board, may they live long.
