במענה למכתבו מכ"ח חשון, בו כותב אודות הנסיעה ללמוד בישיבת תומכי תמימים דכאן.
וכזכור אמרתי בזה לאביו שליט"א אשר לאחרי שילמוד משך זמן נכון בישיבת תומכי תמימים דלוד, ותראה הנהלת הישיבה שם שלומד בהתמדה ושקידה כדבעי והלימוד מביא לידי הנהגה כהוראת חז"ל גדול תלמוד שמביא לידי מעשה, אז יכתבו להנהלת הישיבה דכאן מצבו בלימוד וידיעותיו וכו' ויתברר האם נכונה נסיעתו לכאן או לא.
שמזה מובן גם כן שאין מקום לכתיבה בזה עתה וכו' כיון שרק שנה זו נכנס לישיבה גדולה, ולכל הפחות תקופת נסיון צריכה להיות כמה וכמה חדשים.
נבהלתי לקרות במכתבו אודות שתיית משקה, וידועות הוראות ברורות בזה לרבותינו נשיאינו אודות הזמן שהותר זה ורק בצמצום ורק לסוג אנשים מיוחדים וכו' וכו' ויפנה להמשפיע דא"ח בישיבה והוא יורהו, ולפשיטות הדבר האריכות בזה אך למותר.
בטח שומר על שלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים.

In response to your letter from the 28th of Cheshvan, in which you write about traveling to study at the Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva here.
As I have told your father, sheyichyeh, after you study for an appropriate period at the Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva in Lod and the administration there sees that you are learning with proper diligence and persistence, and that your learning leads to conduct as our Sages teach: 'Great is study for it leads to action,' then they will write to the administration here about your progress in learning and knowledge, etc., and it will be clarified whether your transfer here is appropriate or not.
From this it is also understood that there is no place to write about this now, since only this year you entered the larger yeshiva, and at the very least a trial period must be several months.
I was shocked to read in your letter about drinking mashkeh (alcohol), and it is well known that there are clear instructions from our Rebbeim regarding when this is permitted—only in limited circumstances and only for certain special individuals, etc. You should consult with the mashpia of Chassidus in your yeshiva who will guide you; it is obvious that elaborating on this matter is unnecessary.
Certainly you are keeping up with the three daily study portions of Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya as is customary.
