מאשר אני קבלת מכתבו מט"ז אלול והקודמו, ובטח בעתו ובזמנו קבל גם מכתבי.
מה שכותב בענין ביצוע ועד ציבורי וכו' שלא עניתי לכ' על זה ומכיון שכך נגשו לפעולות וכו', הרי תוכו של דבר הוא שכשקיים הבטחון שיש על מי לסמוך הנה לפעמים טוב יותר שיעשה מעצמו מאשר בהתעוררות מהצד, ובפרט, כנ"ל, שיש רגש הבטחון שיעשה הישר והטוב.
בנועם קבלתי הידיעות על דבר הנחת אבן הפינה, וכן התמונות, ובזה ג"כ השתתפות כ' וכו'. תקותי שתהי' התחלה טובה להמשך טוב מוסיף והולך מוסיף ואור, ולאמתו של דבר הרי כל פעולות האדם הן באופן של התחלה, כיון שתורתנו נצחית ועמנו נצחי וכל הערכים המסורתיים הם נצחיים, ולכן כל כמה שיפעול וישיג האדם המוגבל עדיין שלא לפי ערך הוא לגבי האין סוף.
מובן שלא ללמוד דרשה קאתינא, אלא ללמד זכות על עצמי מה שאני חוזר כמה פעמים ומדגיש אותו ענין, והטעם הוא מפני שרואה אני כאן ענין הנוגע לדורות ודורי דורות, וכל שיפור ותיקון של מוסד על טהרת הקדש בכלל, ושל מוסד הישיבה בפרט, מביא לתוצאות כבירות ופירות ופירי פירות.
ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני מאחל לכ' ולכל אשר לו שנה טובה ומתוקה, הן בעניניו הכלליים והן בעניניו הפרטיים.
בברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד ובכבוד.

I acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 16th of Elul and the previous one as well. Surely you also received my letter in due time.
Regarding what you wrote about establishing a public committee and that I did not respond to you about this—and since this is so, you proceeded with the activities—essentially, when there is confidence that there is someone reliable to depend on, sometimes it is better for a person to act on his own initiative rather than through outside prompting. Especially, as mentioned above, when there is a feeling of confidence that he will do what is upright and good.
I was pleased to receive the news about the laying of the cornerstone as well as the photographs; in this too was your participation.
I hope this will be a good beginning for continued success—ever increasing and ever brightening. In truth, all human actions are in a sense beginnings because our Torah is eternal, our people are eternal, and all traditional values are eternal. Therefore, no matter how much a limited human achieves or accomplishes, it still does not compare to the Infinite.
It is understood that this should not be taken as an excuse for minimal effort (as in "Katina's sermon"), but rather as a justification for myself for repeating and emphasizing this point many times. The reason is because I see here something that affects generations and generations to come; every improvement or correction made to an institution dedicated to holiness in general—and particularly to a yeshivah institution—brings about great results and fruits for generations.
As we approach the new year which is coming upon us and all Israel for good and blessing, I wish you and all yours a good and sweet year—in both your communal matters and your personal affairs.
With blessings for being inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year materially and spiritually together—with honor.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true leadership involves self-confidence rooted in trustworthiness. Every positive action has eternal value; even small improvements can impact future generations. As we begin anew each year, our efforts should always aim higher—both materially and spiritually.
