Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the eve of Wednesday, in which you write about what happened to you regarding a lack of vitality, matters of thoughts of sadness, etc., and you ask my opinion on this.
All matters of our Torah, the Torah of life, are guidance for life (and from an affirmative statement you can infer the negative, etc.), and since the inner dimension of Torah is established in the holy Zohar (part III, 152a) as being called the soul of the Torah, it is understood that when there is a lack in the vitality of the soul, there is a lack in the vitality of all matters of the body—namely its 248 limbs and 365 sinews; in analogy—matters of the 248 positive commandments and 365 prohibitions and their study in halachah. It is also understood that vitality of the soul can exist in a minimal way—similar to how the soul enlivens during sleep; although this suffices for bodily digestion processes, it is not at all sufficient regarding understanding, comprehension, or true feeling—only empty imaginations and dreams; dreams like those discussed in the holy Zohar [...] as explained in Tanya (chapter 29).
From all the above it is understood what is needed to fix and advise for all that was mentioned: an increase in soul-vitality—that is, establishing fixed times for studying the inner dimension of Torah which in our generation has been revealed through Chassidus; establishing this every day and increasing on Shabbos Kodesh which is sanctified to Hashem as explained in Kisvei HaArizal regarding studying inner Torah on Shabbos.
May it be G‑d's will that these fixed times be—as expressed by our master the Alter Rebbe (the author of Tanya—the halachic authority for nistar/hidden Torah) and Shulchan Aruch (the halachic authority for nigleh/revealed Torah)—not only fixed in time but also (and mainly) fixed within one's soul. Nothing stands before one's will.
Blessings for good news in all mentioned above, and in the words of my revered father-in-law, may you receive the Torah with joy and inwardness.
In the name of my revered father-in-law shlita
Mazkir
P.S. It would be proper to have your tefillin checked to ensure they are kosher according to halachah. Also, every weekday before morning prayers you should set aside a few coins for charity.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that feelings of sadness or lack of vitality are best addressed by increasing one's study of Chassidus—the inner dimension of Torah—with fixed daily times. Practical steps like checking tefillin and daily charity further support spiritual well-being.
