Shalom u'Vrachah!

After a longer trip, your letter from the 23rd of Shevat arrived, in which you write about your current mood and also briefly about some matters from the past. As explained in our holy Torah and with more detail in books of Mussar and Chassidus, regardless of all these things one must be joyful and of good heart. The reasons for this are explained at length there, also according to reason, as it is stated in Rambam in Sefer Yad HaChazakah at the end of Hilchos Lulav regarding how a mitzvah should be fulfilled. And it is written: 'Bechol Derachecha Da'eihu' (In all your ways know Him), that it should be with a good heart, as is also stated in Tur Orach Chaim and Shulchan Aruch siman 231.

If this is commanded for everyone, it is even more necessary when one sees that thinking about past conduct brings weakness in health or lowers the quality of one's mood. I hope that with people like you there is no need to elaborate much on this.

May Hashem help that from now on you will be strong in trust in Hashem Who watches over each individual with Divine Providence. He is the essence of goodness and has instructed how a Jew should conduct himself—to be calm and composed and serve Him in this manner and also with joy.

It is especially necessary to behave this way when Hashem has blessed one with family life, where the husband's mood affects his wife and household. May it be His will that you share good news about this—especially as we are now in the days before Purim which are days of joy etc.—so may it be for you: continue and maintain such conduct throughout the entire year.

With blessings for good tidings.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that maintaining joy and trust in Hashem is essential even when facing memories or consequences of past actions. This positive approach uplifts both oneself and one's family, especially during auspicious times like before Purim.
