כן מהנכון לחזור - הברמ"צ המאמר ד"ה איתא במדרש תהלים, וקל ללמדו בעל פה, וגם בנו יעשה כן.

You should also ask among Anash if anyone knows how this was practiced in their communities in our country previously.
It is also appropriate to review—the Bar Mitzvah maamar "It is stated in Midrash Tehillim," which is easy to learn by heart, and your son should do so as well.
