The Rebbe writes about the celebration of completing and restarting Mishnayos, emphasizing that Torah brings true life, peace between body and soul, and unity among Jews. He connects the teachings of Tanya and the Mishnah to achieving harmony in both the spiritual and physical realms.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

With pleasure I received your letter informing me about the mitzvah celebration of the Shas and Mishnayos Society, on the occasion of completing and beginning Mishnayos anew.

May it be G‑d's will that you increase your strength in our holy Torah, the Torah of Life—this expression is not just figurative; it means life in our world, even though it is physical and material—life that aligns with the Torah's guidance. As it is said: 'Ve'atem ha'dvekim b'Hashem Elokeichem chayim kulchem hayom' (And you who cleave to Hashem your G‑d are all alive today). This is also hinted at in the conclusion of Mishnayos: 'The Holy One found no vessel to hold blessing for Israel except peace'—peace between soul and body, within the soul itself; peace between the animal soul and the second soul in Israel—the Divine soul—as explained at length in Sefer Tanya Kadisha. Then one draws down peace and unity into the world as well.

Similarly, as hinted at in the beginning of Mishnah: 'Me'eimatai korin et Shema b'Aravin' (From when do we recite Shema in the evenings), which teaches that even during times of darkness in the world, Bnei Yisrael recite [Shema]. And as our Sages expound: 'Al tikrei vayikra ela vayakria' (Do not read "and he called," but "and he caused to call"): Shema... Hashem Echad (Hear... Hashem is One)—I have made Him King above and below and to all four directions—unity in place, which is hinted at by "Echad." Likewise unity in time, as hinted at by Hashem's Name—He was, He is, He will be—which is its intent according to Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim section 5.

With honor and regards to all participants in learning Mishnah. In the words of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal nishmaso Eden zichrono yagen aleinu: With blessings for receiving the Torah—which is imminent—with joy and inwardness.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that completing Mishnayos brings not only personal growth but also peace and unity among Jews. Through Torah study—especially when begun anew—we draw down harmony into both our inner selves and the wider world.
