בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מכ"ב אייר, אודות ביקורו בישיבת תומכי תמימים ביחד עם הרה"ג אי"א נו"נ וכו' הר"ח שי' ביק[2] ותוצאות הבחינות אשר השביעות רצונם.
ויהי רצון אשר בהנוגע להתלמידים כיון שהגשמיות משתלשלת מהרוחניות, ובענינים גשמיים הרי נאמר, מי שיש לו מנה רוצה מאתים, מי שיש לו מאתים רוצה ד' מאות, הרי ככל שתגדל ידיעות התלמידים והתמדתם, יתרבה ג"כ צמאונם ושקידתם בלימוד תורת ה' תמימה, הנגלה והפנימיות גם יחד, חדורה אור וחיות חסידותים, שיהיו מתאימים לרצון וכוונת רבותינו נשיאינו מייסדי הישיבה ומנהלי', והרי דברי צדיקים ועאכו"כ מעשיהם קיימים לעד ופועלים פעולתם.
ומשנה ת"ח לכת"ר וחבירו בעד בשורה הטובה, והעיקר אשר בטח ע"י הבחינה. עוררו בהתלמידים קנאת סופרים עלי' נאמר תרבה חכמה, ובלשון הזהר (ח"ב קכו, ב) אסגיאו משיכו דחכמתא, והוסיף, ביאור אדמו"ר הצ"צ ע"פ מרז"ל (שבת קנב, ב); מי שיש בו קנאה מרקיב, שהוא כענין התולע דקדושה שמרקיב הארז, מדות דנה"ב, וע"ד המבואר בארחות צדיקים שער יד על מרז"ל האמור קנאת סופרים תרבה חכמה, כי תראה אדם שלומד וכו' וכן לענין כל המצות כו' ומציין ג"כ לסוטה ג, ע"א (אור התורה ויצא ד"ה ותקנא רחל באחותה).
בברכה לבשו"ט, אין טוב אלא תורה ומצותי', תכה"י מתוך שמחה וטוב לבב.

With pleasure I received your letter from the 22nd of Iyar regarding your visit to Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim together with Haraha"g iy"a nu"n etc. Harav Chaim Bik and the results of the examinations which satisfied you.
May it be G‑d's will that regarding the students—since physicality descends from spirituality, and in material matters it is said: "He who has one hundred desires two hundred; he who has two hundred desires four hundred,"—so too, as students' knowledge and diligence increase, so will their thirst and persistence in studying the complete Torah of Hashem, both revealed and inner dimensions together, imbued with chassidic light and vitality. This should align with the will and intent of our Rebbeim—the founders and directors of the yeshivah. The words (and certainly the deeds) of tzaddikim endure forever and have lasting effect.
I repeat my thanks to your honor and your colleague for the good news. Most importantly, I trust that through the examination you inspired in the students kinas sofrim (scholarly motivation), about which it is said: "It increases wisdom." In the language of Zohar (II:126b): "Asgyau mashicho d-chokhmata," and further explained by Admor HaTzTz based on our Sages (Shabbos 152b): "One who possesses jealousy causes decay," which is like a holy worm that decays cedar—the traits of the animal soul. As explained in Orchos Tzaddikim, Gate 14, on our Sages' statement "Kinas sofrim increases wisdom": you see a person learning, etc., and similarly regarding all mitzvos, etc. He also references Sotah 3a (Or HaTorah Vayetze D"H Vatikane Rachel b'achotah).
Blessings for good news; there is nothing good but Torah and its mitzvos. May you write only from joy and gladness of heart.
