Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter of 5/6 in which you write about adopting a child from a non-Jewish schoolgirl and relying on the rule of converting a minor with the consent of the Beis Din: G‑d forbid to even consider such a thing. If you and your wife have decided to adopt a child, it must specifically be from Jewish parents—a man and woman—who was born in kosher circumstances. With proper effort, this can be found. Even if you search in North Africa among our Sephardic Jewish brethren there—where all are upright Jews with large families (G‑d bless), though their financial situation is very strained—you can find such a child.
You do not write about the state of Torah and mitzvos in your home. However, according to the instruction of our holy Torah that one must always add in goodness, no matter how good the situation is there is always room to add more. Hashem is surely trusted to add even more blessing and success in what you need among the Jewish people as a whole.
You surely know about the custom to say the daily portion of Tehillim as it is divided by days of the month—each person after davening—and your wife also knows about the good custom of kosher Jewish women to give tzedakah every time before lighting candles on Erev Shabbos and Erev Yom Tov. In any case, you should do so from now on and continue further.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that adoption should only be from kosher Jewish lineage. He encourages increasing Torah observance at home and upholding spiritual customs like daily Tehillim and giving tzedakah before candle lighting for greater blessing.
