Greetings and blessings! In response to your letter—which took longer than usual to reach me—in which you write that you have moved to a new store and currently do not see success in your livelihood, working as a tailor. You are surely aware of the concept of separating maaser (a tenth) from your earnings, and especially when there is financial difficulty one should increase in charity. However, in any case, not less than a tenth should be given, and it is best to distribute the charity in several installments, with auspicious times being every weekday before morning prayers.

It is also proper to have your tefillin checked, and to ask a rabbi whether your store requires a mezuzah; if so, affix a kosher mezuzah properly. If the store does not require a mezuzah, then at the very least there should be a siddur and Tehillim present in your shop.

May it be G-d’s will that the Creator and Guide of the world expand your livelihood and that you increase your study of the holy Torah—Tiferes Bachurim—during your free time. Also influence your friends so that they too will do likewise; the merit of the many will assist you.
