במענה למכתבו - שנתארך דרך הילוכו יותר על הרגיל עד שהגיע לידי - בו כותב אשר עבר לחנות חדשה, ולעת עתה אינו רואה הצלחה בפרנסתו והוא במקצוע - חייט.
מסתמא יודע מענין הפרשת מעשר מהריוח, ובפרט כשיש דוחק בפרנסה צריך להרבות בצדקה, אבל בכל אופן לא פחות ממעשר, ולחלק את הצדקה בכמה פעמים, ומזמנים המסוגלים הוא בכל יום חול קודם תפלת הבוקר. וכן מהנכון לבדוק את התפילין שלו, וישאל אצל רב, באם פתח החנות שלו חייב במזוזה, ואז יקבע מזוזה כשרה באופן הכשר, ובאם אין החנות חייבת במזוזה, אזי עכ"פ צריך שיהי' מצוים שם בחנותו סידור ותהלים.
ויהי רצון אשר ירחיב בורא עולם ומנהיגו פרנסתו ויוסיף בלימוד בתורה הק' תפארת בחורים[1] בזמנים הפנוים וגם על ידידיו ישפיע שגם הם יעשו ככה וזכות הרבים מסייעתו.

In response to your letter—which took longer than usual to reach me—in which you write that you have moved to a new store and currently do not see success in your livelihood as a tailor. You surely know about the practice of separating ma'aser (a tenth) from your earnings, and especially when there is financial difficulty one should increase in giving tzedakah. However, in any case, not less than a tenth should be given, and it is best to distribute the charity in several installments. Auspicious times for this are every weekday before morning prayers.
It is also appropriate to have your tefillin checked, and ask a rabbi whether your store requires a mezuzah; if so, affix a kosher mezuzah properly. If the store does not require a mezuzah, then at least ensure that there is a siddur and Tehillim present in your shop.
May it be G‑d's will that the Creator and Ruler of the world broaden your livelihood and that you increase your study of the holy Torah—Tiferes Bachurim—in your free time. May you also influence your friends so that they do likewise, for the merit of the many will assist you.
