Your wife should also increase her giving from her own money, in addition to her surely keeping the good custom of Jewish women to give charity before lighting candles on Erev Shabbat and Erev Yom Tov.
Mrs. ... Blessings and greetings! Your husband writes to me that, thank G-d, you have been in different circumstances for the past eight months. I wish that everything should be proper and easy, and that in due time you should have a healthy, lively child, easily and properly. Surely you know and also do, according to the custom of Jewish women, to give charity before lighting candles, and in connection with your current situation and also in business, the advice of our sages is to add in charity in general and especially before candle lighting. P.S. Regarding what you write about speaking with the landlord to divide the second floor and reduce the rent: if this can be done easily, you may do so. But if it requires much effort and exertion, the whole matter is not worthwhile, and the overall outcome of the year will be good. Even more important is that the livelihood should be used for healthy and joyful things.
