This is in response to your letter from the 27th of Nissan. At an auspicious time, you and your entire family will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, of blessed memory, each for what they need.

You should have your tefillin and also the mezuzot in your home checked to ensure they are all kosher according to halacha.

Regarding what you wrote about your wife, may she live, that since the birth of your first child, you have not yet been blessed with more children: In general, one must be strong in trust in the Creator of the world, who is the essence of goodness, that He will fulfill your heartfelt desire with more healthy and righteous children. However, it is likely that extra care should be taken in the meticulous observance of the laws and details of family purity and modesty. Although I hope the main points are being observed, in such an extremely important matter, it must be kept properly according to the guidance of our Torah, the Torah of life. Then, you should be strong in trust in the Giver of the Torah and mitzvot, that He will fulfill your heart’s wishes for good in the near future.

Regarding the difficulties in livelihood that you mentioned, it is well known the instruction of our holy Torah: "Salt of money is lacking," meaning to increase in charity and to distribute charity in several installments. Of the auspicious times, every weekday before prayer in the morning is especially appropriate.

In general, both matters should be accepted as a test, as the verse says: "For Hashem your G-d is testing you to know whether you love Him." When it is seen from Above that one is strong in trust in Hashem and increases in matters of Torah and mitzvot in general, and in the above-mentioned matters in particular, then from Above the test is nullified and additional blessing, salvation, and success are granted.

P.S. Surely you are keeping the three daily study portions of Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya, which, as we have heard many times from my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, are suitable for everyone and are a segulah for many matters.

אין מענה על מכתבכם מכ"ז ניסן. בעת רצון יוזכרו אתם וכל בני ביתכם על הציון הקדוש של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוק"ל, כל אחד לצרכיו.

יש לבדוק את התפילין וגם את המזוזות שבדירתכם, שכולן יהיו כשרות כהלכה.

לגבי מה שכתבתם על רעייתכם תחי', שמאז לידת הילד הראשון שיחי' עדיין לא נפקדתם בילדים נוספים: בכלל צריך להתחזק בביטחון בבורא עולם, שהוא עצם הטוב, שימלא משאלות לבכם בעוד בנים זכרים חיים וקיימים. אך קרוב לומר שיש להוסיף בזהירות ובדיוק בחוקי ודיני טהרת המשפחה וצניעות. אף שאני מקווה שהעיקרים נשמרים, אך בענין כה עיקרי וחשוב, יש להקפיד על כך כהוגן לפי הוראות תורתנו תורת חיים. ואז להתחזק בביטחון בנותן התורה והמצווה, שימלא משאלות לבכם לטובה בזמן קרוב.

לגבי הקשיים בפרנסה שכתבתם, הרי ידועה הוראת תורתנו הקדושה: מלח ממון חסר, כלומר להרבות בצדקה ולחלקה במספר פעמים. מזמנים המסוגלים לכך הוא כל יום חול לפני התפילה בבוקר.

ובכללות, יש לקבל את שני העניינים כנסיון, כפי שנאמר: כי מנסה ה' אלוקיכם אתכם לדעת הישכם אוהבים. וכשרואים מלמעלה שמתחזקים בביטחון בה' ומוסיפים בענייני תורה ומצוות בכלל, ובפרט בעניינים הנ"ל, מבטלים מלמעלה את הניסיון ומוסיפים בברכה, ישועה והצלחה.
