מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מאור ליום ד', דו"ח[4] מבית הספר חב"ד אשר בשכוני לוד.
ולפלא על מספר המועט של התלמידים, ואף שכותב הטעמים בזה, כבר ראו במוחש בכל מקום וגם באה"ק ת"ו[5], אשר כשמשתדלים, בזה באופן מתאים להוראת חז"ל, - יגעת מתקיימת גם ההבטחה ומצאת[6], ואין כוונתי להיות מהצועקין על עבר[7], אלא לזרז בהנוגע להבא, כי אף שאמצע זמן הלימודים הוא, הרי נמצאו בטח כמה מהמתיישבים חדשים בהשכונה שעדיין לא נרשמו ואין מקושרים לע"ע[8] עם בי"ס[9] מיוחד, ואפשר ישנם עוד אופנים לעשות בהנ"ל, ובודאי יתייעץ עם עסקני חינוך חב"ד, ותשועה ברוב יועץ[10].
תקותי שנוסף על מלאכתו מלאכת שמים בהנוגע להזולת, מקיים הוא גם ומבשרך לא תתעלם[11], ז.א.[12] הוספה בעניני תורה ומצות בכלל, ובלימוד תורת הנגלה וחסידות ביחוד. והשי"ת[13] יצליחו לבשר טוב בכל האמור.

I hereby acknowledge receipt of your letter of the eve of Wednesday, a report from the Chabad school in the neighborhoods of Lod.
It is surprising how small the number of students is. Although you write the reasons for this, it has already been seen tangibly everywhere, in the Holy Land too, may it be built and established, that when one makes efforts in this in a manner that accords with the instruction of our Sages, of blessed memory, יגעת "you have toiled," the promise ומצאת "and you have found" is also fulfilled (Megillah 6b). I do not intend to be among those who cry out over the past (see Berachos 54a), but to spur you on regarding the future. For although it is the middle of the school year, there are surely some among the new settlers in the neighborhood who have not yet registered and for the time being are not connected with any particular school; and perhaps there are further ways of doing the above. You will certainly consult with the activists of Chabad education, ותשועה ברוב יועץ "and salvation lies in much counsel" (Mishlei 11:14).
My hope is that, in addition to your work for others, which is the work of Heaven, you also fulfill ומבשרך לא תתעלם "do not hide yourself from your own flesh" (Yeshayahu 58:7), that is, an increase in matters of Torah and mitzvos in general, and in the study of the revealed Torah and of Chassidus in particular. And may G‑d, blessed be He, grant you success to bring good news in all of the above.
