The School for Scribes: That It Become Self-Supporting, Provided the Parchments and Tefillin Housings Are as They Should Be

This letter, on the shortage of tefillin parchments, hopes the school for scribes will become self-supporting: Merkos here and the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak and Tomchei Temimim students could take its whole output, and any surplus could go to all Chabad institutions, provided the parchments and housings are as they should be.

The Rabbi and Gaon, the Rabbi and Chassid, G‑d-fearing man, distinguished and honored, occupied with communal needs, our teacher Rabbi Binyamin Eliyahu, may he live

Shalom u'Vrachah!

...As for what you write about the shortage of parchments and tefillin: there is room to hope that perhaps the school for scribes[1] will in the course of time become a self-supporting institution. Even if only Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch here takes all it needs of this from the school for scribes, in addition to the needs of the students of the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak and Tomchei Temimim institutions, that may be enough to take the entire output of the two institutions in Meknes [?] and Paris. And if anything is left over, it could be sent to all the places where there are Chabad institutions — provided only that the parchments and the housings are as they should be. I was therefore very pleased with your letter, that you have already ordered all the equipment in the Holy Land, may it be built and established. And surely in the meantime some suitable students are being prepared for this — by studying the laws and the like...

With blessing for outstanding success and for good news.
