נעם לי לקבל מכתבו בו כותב אשר ההשגחה העליונה הפגישה אותו עם החכם...
ועורר בו הרגשי איש הישראלי אשר כמאמר חכמינו זכרונם לברכה, ער הוא הקב"ה לתורתו ומצותיו, ומובן ופשוט שאין מספיקה כלל התעוררות לפי שעה אלא שצריך להמשיכה גם בימים שאחרי זה ובחיי היום יומים, כי הרי בכל יום ויום צריך לפעול ולעשות דבר טוב שלא יהיו ימים ערטילאין וערומים, והרי זהו יתרון האדם על הבהמה שאין לה אלא אכילה ושתי' וכיוצא בזה, מה שאין כן האדם בחיר הבריאה אשר נפש שכלית לו ונפש אלקית לו שצריך להאיר סביבתו, ועל אחת כמה וכמה את עצמו בנר מצוה ותורה אור, וכשרוצים באמת אין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון ומצליחים בזה...

I was pleased to receive your letter in which you write that Divine Providence brought you together with the chacham... and it awakened within you the feelings of a Jewish person. As our Sages of blessed memory say, the Holy One, blessed be He, is attentive to His Torah and mitzvos. It is understood and obvious that a temporary inspiration is not sufficient; rather, one must extend it into the days that follow and into daily life. For every single day one must act and do something good so that the days are not empty and bare. This is the advantage of a human over an animal, which has only eating and drinking and similar things. In contrast, a person—the choicest of creation—has an intellectual soul and a G‑dly soul, who must illuminate his surroundings, and all the more so himself, with the candle of mitzvah and the light of Torah. When one truly desires this, nothing stands in the way of willpower, and one succeeds in this...
