Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the third of "Marbin b'Simchah," in which you write that you are about to travel to Switzerland but do not specify your reasons, while there are yeshivas in Eretz HaKodesh that are satisfactory in every respect—what benefit is there in the hardship of travel and the distraction it brings? Furthermore, and this is also a primary point: leaving Eretz Yisroel for abroad?
You mention what is found in many places in Chassidus—that there is a moment of spiritual redemption during prayer—and you question this based on what is explained elsewhere (including Rambam) about spiritual redemption being dependent on the coming of Moshiach Tzidkeinu. It is understood that these matters do not contradict each other, as there are many levels of spiritual redemption, just as there are many levels of physical redemption. For example, when a person leaves his worldly affairs—not referring to wicked matters but to permissible activities according to Torah—and arranges praise for the Creator during prayer and then requests his needs, he redeems his soul from worldly matters and connects it with the Creator. When one transitions from weekdays to Shabbos, this is an additional redemption (which is one reason why the Baal Shem Tov instituted saying on Shabbos afternoon Psalm 107: "Give thanks to Hashem... Let those redeemed by Hashem say..."). Similarly, when moving from conduct during exile times to conduct of the days of Moshiach, this is a higher level of redemption. This is aside from the main difference between personal/temporary redemption and communal/long-term or permanent redemption. See Iggeres HaKodesh by Rabbeinu HaZaken section 4; also see our Sages (Berachos 8a): "Whoever engages in Torah study, acts of kindness, and prayer—it is as if he has redeemed Me and My children from among the nations."
Surely you know about the three daily study portions established by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe—Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya—which are well known. You keep them or at least will keep them from now on. May Hashem grant you success.
Blessings,
On behalf of the Rebbe Shlita,
Mazkir
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that while traveling abroad for yeshiva may seem appealing, one should consider both practical and spiritual factors—especially when strong options exist locally. Spiritual growth comes through daily Torah study and prayer wherever one resides.
