...נתברר שתחלת מאמר הר"ש שי' גליצנשטיין ע"ד אדהאמ"צ נדפס ביהדות כסלו תש"ח וחבל שהקורא אותו יטעה באיזה ענינים ומהם שאדה"ז התענין רק במצב המוסרי של חסידיו בה בשעה שהקדיש חלק חשוב מזמנו מרצו וכחותיו להטבת מצבם הכלכלי ולא עוד אלא שגם נסע בעצמו על המדינה לאסוף כסף לעבודה במקצוע זה (וכידוע מענה אדה"ז להר"ב ממעזיבוזש והתקנות ע"ד השגת גבול וכו' וכו'), שהעצה ליהודים להתעסק בעבודת אדמה התחילה מהצעת אדהאמ"צ שהעתיק במאמר הנ"ל בה בשעה שבהצעה גופא נזכר שכבר היו המושבות ב"שטעפעת". ועוד זאת שאדה"ז תיכף אחר נישואיו ובמשך נשיאותו ג"כ השתדל להפיץ עבודת האדמה בין השומעים לקולו (המושבות ברוסיא הלבנה. ומסופר בארוכה בחוברת ע"ד עסקנות הצבורית של אדה"ז המוכנת עתה לדפוס).
פקודת הגיוס לצבא ניתנה בשנת הסתלקות אדהאמ"צ היינו הרבה שנים (קודם) [אחר] ההצעה שפרסם ולא כמשמע משטחיות המאמר.

ו) ומטובו למסור להררח"א שי' נאה במענה על שאלתו ע"י הרב טעלושקין שאיני יכול להבטיח שיגיעו הגהותיו לכאן טרם שתוגמר הדפסת השו"ע כי א"י כמה יהיו בדרך אבל איני מבין מהי האחריות כיון שסו"ס חפץ הוא להדפיסם וא"כ הרי מוכרח הוא להכינם לדפוס ואין כאן אלא מה שיקדים בזה ככל האפשרי. אם ישלח ההגהות אלי מה טוב שיהיו בשני עקז' כי אין השו"ע נדפס כאן גופא ונכון שעקז' אחד ישאר אצלי והשני אשלח לביה"ד...

I acknowledge receipt of your letters from the fifth of Nissan and the seventeenth of Sivan. In the meantime, you have surely received my letter from the fourteenth of Nissan with the booklet for Pesach. In response to them:
It has become clear that the beginning of Reb Sh. Galitzenshtein's article about Adhaam"tz was printed in Yehudut Kislev 5708. It is unfortunate that readers may be misled by certain points, such as the claim that the Alter Rebbe was only concerned with his chassidim's moral state, when in fact he devoted significant time, energy, and resources to improving their economic situation. He even traveled himself to collect funds for this purpose (as is known from the Alter Rebbe's response to Reb Ber from Mezhibuzh and his enactments regarding property boundaries, etc.). The advice to Jews to engage in agricultural work began with Adhaam"tz's proposal cited in the aforementioned article; however, even within that proposal it is mentioned that settlements already existed in "Shtefat." Furthermore, immediately after his marriage and throughout his leadership, the Alter Rebbe also worked to spread agricultural work among those who listened to him (the settlements in White Russia—this is described at length in a booklet about his public activities now being prepared for print). The military draft order was given in the year of Adhaam"tz's passing—that is many years after (not before) his published proposal, contrary to what might be inferred from a superficial reading of the article.
c) Please kindly give five litas from what you have belonging to Melach to Harap"tz Mendelsohn.
d) Enclosed is a booklet and a letter for 12 Tammuz. The booklet was sent by regular mail.
e) Please inform me of details regarding Shabos Pinchas Landau and his family.
f) Also please convey to Hararacha"a Naeh—in response to his question via Rabbi Telushkin—that I cannot guarantee his corrections will arrive here before printing of Shulchan Aruch is completed since I do not know how long they will take en route. However, I do not understand what responsibility there could be since ultimately he wishes them printed; therefore he must prepare them for print as soon as possible. If he sends me the corrections it would be best if there are two copies since Shulchan Aruch is not being printed here directly and it is advisable that one copy remain with me while I send the other to Beit Din...
