איינע פון די גרעסטע מצות, איז די מצוה פון צדקה, צדקה מיינט אבער ניט נאר אז מ'העלפט יענעם קערפערליך: ער זאל האבען וואס צו עסען, מיט וואס צו באקליידען זיך, זיין גוף א. ז. וו. אז מ'העלפט יענעם גייסטיג, אז מ'זעהט אז זיין נשמה זאל באקומען איהר "שפייז" אין וועלכער זי נויטיגט זיך, און זי זאל ניט ארומגיין נאקעט אהן תורה און מעשים טובים, איז דאס פון די איידעלסטע און העכסטע צדקות וואס א מענש קאן טאן, ווי די גמרא דריקט זיך אויס זה הביאו לחיי עולם הזה - זה מביאו לחיי עולם הבא.
און א וועג ווי מען קאן יענעם העלפען גייסטיג, איז דורך דערמעגליכען עםצו לייענען די דברי התעוררות און די טיפע ערקלערונגען און אנווייזונגען פון די גדולי מנהיגי ישראל וואס אין יעדער דור, ובדורנו - כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א.
ויהי רצון אז בזכות פון די גרויסע מצוה זאלט איר בקרוב הערען בשורות טובות פון אייערע עלטערען און אלע איירער פריינט, און איר זאלט זוכה זיין צוזאמען מיט כל ישראל, מקבל זיין פני מ"צ בב"א.

Enclosed we are sending you a copy of the booklet from the sefer Kuntres Chai Elul, which we recently published. Through our friend Haraha"g vavaha"ch havavac"h iy"a etc. Rabbi Moshe Pinchas Katz and his wife from Newark, we received your preliminary donation of fifty dollars ($50) which you gave through them as your participation in the expenses of printing a sefer. And according to your request—transmitted through them—we have inscribed the name of your father Reb Chaim ben Reb Klonimus, as you will see on the cover of the sefer.
Great is the merit of bringing merit to the many, especially by printing this important booklet. One of the greatest mitzvos is the mitzvah of tzedakah (charity). However, tzedakah does not only mean helping someone physically: that he should have food to eat, clothing to wear, and so on. When one helps another spiritually—ensuring his soul receives its "nourishment" which it needs and does not wander naked without Torah and good deeds—this is among the most refined and elevated forms of charity a person can do. As the Gemara expresses: "This one brings him to life in this world; this one brings him to life in the World to Come."
And one way to help someone spiritually is by enabling him to read words of inspiration and deep explanations and guidance from the great leaders of Israel in every generation—and in our generation, my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita.
May it be G‑d's will that in the merit of this great mitzvah you should soon hear good news from your parents and all your friends, and may you merit together with all Israel to greet Moshiach Tzidkeinu speedily in our days.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that supporting Torah dissemination is a lofty form of tzedakah—helping souls as well as bodies—and brings great merit. Enabling others’ spiritual growth through Torah is among our highest callings.
