In response to your question about whether the sum you and your wife set aside for charity may be used to purchase books or given to a particular charity fund: The funds should be given as charity and may be divided into portions—for example, for the Lubavitch educational institutions in Eretz HaKodesh (the Holy Land), Brno, Paris, and Africa. Ideally, it is best to divide them into four equal parts. May Hashem grant you and your entire family both material and spiritual goodness, and may you merit to receive the Torah with joy and inwardness.
