Shalom u'Vrachah!

As we approach the upcoming Pesach holiday, I hereby extend my blessing for a kosher and joyous Pesach. Our Sages say that one of the reasons redemption from slavery to freedom was hastened was due to the harshness of the bondage, especially when Jewish children were placed in the walls of buildings whenever the quota of bricks was not met. The children, buried alive, would cry out with no one to save them, and their cries rose up to G‑d.

Aside from its literal meaning, this also hints at a spiritual lesson: children who are separated from a Jewish home and life filled with the light of Torah and placed into foreign houses—Egyptian houses—where darkness prevails. If physical enslavement is bitter, how much more so is spiritual enslavement.

As we come to celebrate Zman Cheiruteinu (the Season of Our Freedom), each and every one of us must free ourselves from being immersed, G‑d forbid, in matters of Egypt, and strive—each person according to their ability—to free the sons and daughters of Israel from this terrible spiritual bondage and bring them from darkness to great light through kosher education in purity and holiness.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that true freedom comes through pure Jewish education. Just as our ancestors were redeemed from Egypt by crying out to G‑d, so too must we ensure our children are raised in Torah-filled homes, freeing them from spiritual darkness.
