Prohibition Against Working the Land During Yovel

המצווה הרכ"ד

האזהרה שהזהרנו על עבודת הארץ בשנת היובל.

והוא אמרו בה: "לא תזרעו" (ויקרא כה, יא), כמו שאמר בשמיטה: "שדך לא תזרע". (ויקרא כה, ד)

וכשם שאסורה בשמיטה בין עבודת הארץ בין עבודת האילן, כך היובל, ולפיכך אמר "לא תזרעו", בלשון כללי, לכלול הארץ והאילן.

וגם העובר על זה - לוקה.

The prohibition against working the land during the Yovel year

1. The prohibition in which we were warned against working the land during the Yovel year.

And this is His statement regarding it: "You shall not sow" (Vayikra 25:11), just as it says regarding Shemitah: "You shall not sow your field" (Vayikra 25:4).

And just as it is forbidden during Shemitah to perform both work of the land and work of the trees, so too with Yovel. Therefore, it says "You shall not sow" in general terms, to include both the land and the trees.

And one who transgresses this is liable for lashes.
