המצווה המשלימה שמונים
האזהרה שהזהרנו מלעלות למזבח במעלות, כדי שלא יפסע פסיעות גסות בשעת עליתו, אלא ילך עקב בצד גדל. והוא אמרו יתעלה:
"[ו]לא תעלה במעלת על מזבחי וגו' " (שמות כ, כג).
ולשון המכילתא:"מה תלמוד לומר: "אשר לא תגלה ערותך עליו"?
שכשעולה למזבח לא יהא פוסע פסיעה גסה, אלא מהלך עקב בצד גדל".
וכבר נתבארה צורת הכבש והיאך בנינו בפרק ג' ממדות.
וכל הפוסע פסיעה גסה על המזבח עד שתגלה ערוותו עליו - לוקה.
The commandment completing eighty
1. The prohibition in which we were warned not to ascend the Mizbeiach by steps, so that one does not take large strides when going up, but rather should walk heel to toe. And He, may He be exalted, said: "And you shall not ascend by steps upon My Mizbeiach…" (Shemos 20:23).
2. And the language of the Mechilta: "What does it teach when it says: 'so that your nakedness not be uncovered upon it'? When one ascends the Mizbeiach, he should not take large strides, but should walk heel to toe."
3. The form of the ramp and how it was constructed has already been explained in chapter 3 of Middos.
4. And anyone who takes a large stride upon the Mizbeiach, so that his nakedness is uncovered upon it, receives lashes.
