Musaf Amidah for Shabbat and Rosh ChodeshWhile reciting the Amidah one should concentrate on the meaning of every word, avoiding all distractions and interruptions. One is required to pray loud enough to hear their own words, though it is not necessary to be audible to others. As one begins the Amidah one takes three steps forward, and then three steps back, which signifies our approaching the Throne of God.

May salvation arise from heaven — grace, kindness and compassion, long life, ample sustenance and heavenly help, bodily health and enlightenment, living and enduring offspring, offspring who will not cease from nor neglect the words of the Torah — for our masters and teachers, the holy fellowships who are in the Land of Israel and in Babylonia, for the heads of the Kallah assemblies, the heads of the exile, the heads of the academies and the judges at the gates; for all their disciples and all the disciples of their disciples, and for all who occupy themselves with the Torah. May the King of the universe bless them, prolong their lives, increase their days and add length to their years; and may they be redeemed and delivered from every distress and from all evil maladies. May our Master who is in heaven be their help at all times and seasons; and let us say, Amen.

May salvation arise from heaven — grace, kindness and compassion, long life, ample sustenance and heavenly help, bodily health and enlightenment, living and enduring offspring, offspring who will not cease from nor neglect the words of the Torah — for this entire holy congregation, great and small, children and women. May the King of the universe bless you, prolong your lives, increase your days and add length to your years; and may you be redeemed and delivered from every distress and from all evil maladies. May our Master who is in heaven be your help at all times and seasons; and let us say, Amen.

May He who blessed our fathers, Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov, bless this entire holy congregation, together with all the holy congregations: them, their wives, their sons and daughters, and all that is theirs; and those who set aside synagogues for prayer, and those who come into them to pray, and those who give lamps for light and wine for Kiddush and Havdalah, bread for guests and charity for the poor; and all who faithfully occupy themselves with the needs of the community. May the Holy One, blessed be He, pay their reward, remove from them all sickness, heal their entire body, forgive all their sins, and send blessing and success upon all the work of their hands, together with all Israel their brethren; and let us say, Amen.

Blessing of the Month ★

Blessing of the New Moon
On the Shabbos preceding the New Moon (Rosh Chodesh), the blessing for the new month is recited.
It is proper for one to know when the reappearance ("the birth") of the new moon will occur, so the date and time are announced before blessing the month.

The congregation should rise and remain standing while the blessing is recited.

At the bimah the chazzan should hold the Torah from which the weekly parsha was read while reciting the blessing.

Congregation, followed by the chazzan:

May He who performed miracles for our fathers and redeemed them from slavery to freedom, redeem us soon and gather our dispersed from the four corners of the earth; all Israel are united in fellowship; and let us say, Amen.

The following statement is said by the chazzan, followed by the congregation.
The days of the week and names of the months are listed in the tables below:

Rosh Chodesh Nissan will be on the third day of the week, which is coming upon us for good.

May the Holy One, blessed be He, renew it for us and for all His people, the House of Israel, for life and for peace (Cong: Amen), for gladness and for joy (Cong: Amen), for salvation and for consolation; and let us say, Amen.

Happy are those who dwell in Your house; they will yet praise You, Selah. Happy is the people whose lot is thus; happy is the people whose G‑d is the L‑rd.
A psalm of praise by David: I will exalt You, my G‑d the King, and bless Your Name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You, and praise Your Name forever and ever.
The L‑rd is great and highly praised, and His greatness is unfathomable.
One generation to another will laud Your works, and tell of Your mighty acts.
I will speak of the splendor of Your glorious majesty and of Your wondrous deeds.
They will speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will recount Your greatness.
They will express the remembrance of Your abundant goodness, and sing joyously of Your righteousness.
The L‑rd is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and of great kindness.
The L‑rd is good to all, and His mercies extend over all His works.
L‑rd, all Your works will praise You, and Your pious ones will bless You.
They will speak of the glory of Your kingship, and tell of Your might,
to make known to men His mighty acts, and the glorious splendor of His kingship.
Your kingship is a kingship over all worlds, and Your dominion is throughout every generation.
The L‑rd supports all who fall, and straightens all who are bent.
The eyes of all look hopefully to You, and You give them their food at its proper time.
You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The L‑rd is righteous in all His ways and benevolent in all His deeds.
The L‑rd is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.
He fulfills the desire of those who fear Him, hears their cry and saves them.
The L‑rd watches over all who love Him, and will destroy all the wicked.
My mouth will utter the praise of the L‑rd, and let all flesh bless His holy Name forever and ever.
And we will bless the L‑rd from now and forever. Praise the L‑rd.

The Torah is returned to the Ark at this point, carried in the right arm; the following is recited by the chazzan:

Let them praise the Name of the L‑rd, for His Name alone is exalted.

The congregation then responds:

His majesty is over the earth and the heavens. He has raised the glory of His people, the praise of all His pious ones, the children of Israel, the people close to Him. Praise the L‑rd.

Exalted and hallowed be His great Name. (Amen) Throughout the world which He has created according to His will. May He establish His kingship, bring forth His redemption and hasten the coming of His Moshiach. (Amen) In your lifetime and in your days and in the lifetime of the entire House of Israel, speedily and soon, and say, Amen. (Amen)

May His great Name be blessed forever and to all eternity. Blessed and praised, glorified, exalted and extolled, honored, adored and lauded be the Name of the Holy One, blessed be He. (Amen) Beyond all the blessings, hymns, praises and consolations that are uttered in the world; and say, Amen. (Amen)

✶ Musaf Amidah for Shabbos and for Shabbos Rosh Chodesh ✶

Musaf Amidah for Shabbos and Rosh Chodesh
While reciting the Amidah one should concentrate on the meaning of every word, avoiding all distractions and interruptions. One is required to pray loud enough to hear one's own words, though it is not necessary to be audible to others. As one begins the Amidah one takes three steps forward, and then three steps back, which signifies our approaching the Throne of G‑d.

My L‑rd, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare Your praise.

Blessed are You, L‑rd our G‑d and G‑d of our fathers, G‑d of Abraham, G‑d of Isaac and G‑d of Jacob, the great, mighty and awesome G‑d, exalted G‑d, who bestows bountiful kindness, who creates all things, who remembers the piety of the Patriarchs, and who, in love, brings a redeemer to their children's children, for the sake of His Name. O King, Helper, Deliverer and Shield. Blessed are You, L‑rd, Shield of Abraham.

You are mighty forever, my L‑rd; You revive the dead, You are powerful to save. He causes the wind to blow and the rain to fall. He sustains the living with kindness, revives the dead with great mercy, supports the falling, heals the sick, releases the bound, and keeps His faith with those who sleep in the dust. Who is like You, Master of mighty deeds, and who can be compared to You, King who brings death and restores life and causes salvation to spring forth? And You are faithful to revive the dead. Blessed are You, L‑rd, who revives the dead.

Congregation, then chazzan

A crown is given to You, L‑rd our G‑d, by the angels, the supernal multitudes, together with Your people Israel who are assembled below. All of them together thrice repeat "holy" unto You, as it is written by Your prophet: And they call one to another and say:

Congregation, then chazzan

Holy, holy, holy is the L‑rd of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory. His glory fills the universe; His ministering angels ask one another, “Where is the place of His glory, to adore Him?” Those facing them offer praise and say:

Congregation, then chazzan

Blessed be the glory of the L‑rd from its place. From His place may He turn with compassion to His people, who proclaim the unity of His Name evening and morning, every day, continually, twice daily reciting Shema with love:

Congregation, then chazzan

Hear, O Israel, the L‑rd is our G‑d, the L‑rd is One.

He is our G‑d; He is our Father; He is our King; He is our Savior; and He will save us and redeem us a second time soon, and in His compassion He will let us hear, in the sight of every living being, saying: “Behold, I have redeemed you at the end as at the beginning, to be your G‑d.”

Congregation, then chazzan

“I am the L‑rd your G‑d.” And in Your holy words it is written, saying:

Congregation, then chazzan

"The L‑rd shall reign forever; your G‑d, O Zion, throughout all generations. Praise the L‑rd."

You are holy and Your Name is holy, and holy beings praise You daily for all eternity. Blessed are You, L‑rd, the holy G‑d.

You instituted the Shabbos and desired its offerings; You commanded its specific laws together with the order of its libations. Those who delight in it will inherit everlasting honor; those who taste it merit life; and those who love its teachings have chosen greatness. Already at Sinai they were commanded concerning it, a command of its proper performance. May it be Your will, L‑rd our G‑d and G‑d of our fathers, to bring us up in joy to our land and to plant us within our borders; and there we will offer before You our obligatory offerings, the daily offerings according to their order and the Musaf offerings according to their law.

And the Musaf offering of this Shabbos day we will prepare and offer before You with love, in accordance with the command of Your will, as You have written for us in Your Torah through Moshe Your servant, from the mouth of Your glory, as it is said:

“And on the Shabbos day, two yearling lambs without blemish, and two tenths of an ephah of fine flour for a meal-offering, mixed with oil, and its libation. This is the burnt-offering of each Shabbos on its Shabbos, in addition to the daily burnt-offering and its libation.”

Those who observe the Shabbos and call it a delight shall rejoice in Your kingship. The people who sanctify the Seventh Day will all be satiated and delighted with Your goodness. You were pleased with the Seventh Day and sanctified it; You called it the most desirable of days, in remembrance of the work of Creation.

Our G‑d and G‑d of our fathers, please be pleased with our rest; sanctify us with Your commandments and grant us our portion in Your Torah; satiate us with Your goodness and gladden our soul with Your salvation, and purify our heart to serve You in truth; and, L‑rd our G‑d, grant us as a heritage, in love and goodwill, Your holy Shabbos, and may all Israel who sanctify Your Name rest on it. Blessed are You, L‑rd, who sanctifies the Shabbos.

Look with favor, L‑rd our G‑d, on Your people Israel and pay heed to their prayer; restore the service to the inner sanctuary of Your House, and accept with love and favor Israel's fire-offerings and their prayer; and may the service of Your people Israel always find favor.

May our eyes behold Your return to Zion in mercy. Blessed are You, L‑rd, who restores His Divine Presence to Zion.

We thankfully acknowledge that You are the L‑rd our G‑d and G‑d of our fathers forever. You are the strength of our life, the shield of our deliverance in every generation. We will give thanks to You and recount Your praise, for our lives which are committed into Your hand, for our souls which are entrusted to You, for Your miracles which are with us daily, and for Your continual wonders and beneficences, evening, morning and noon. You are the Beneficent One, for Your mercies never cease; and the Merciful One, for Your kindnesses never end; for we always place our hope in You.

And for all these, may Your Name, our King, be continually blessed, exalted and extolled forever and all time.

And all living things shall forever thank You and praise Your great Name eternally, for You are good. G‑d, You are our everlasting salvation and help, O benevolent G‑d. Blessed are You, L‑rd, Beneficent is Your Name, and to You it is fitting to offer thanks.

Our G‑d and G‑d of our fathers, bless us with the threefold blessing written in the Torah by the hand of Moshe Your servant, pronounced by Aharon and his sons, the Kohanim, Your holy people, as it is said: “May the L‑rd bless you and guard you. May the L‑rd make His countenance shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the L‑rd turn His countenance toward you and grant you peace.”

Grant peace, goodness and blessing, life, grace, kindness and compassion, to us and to all Your people Israel. Bless us, our Father, all of us as one, with the light of Your countenance; for by the light of Your countenance You gave us, L‑rd our G‑d, the Torah of life and love of kindness, righteousness, blessing, compassion, life and peace. May it be good in Your eyes to bless Your people Israel at all times and at every hour with Your peace.

Blessed are You, L‑rd, who blesses His people Israel with peace.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You, L‑rd, my Strength and my Redeemer.

My G‑d, guard my tongue from evil and my lips from speaking deceitfully. To those who curse me, let my soul be silent; and let my soul be like dust to all. Open my heart to Your Torah, and let my soul eagerly pursue Your commandments. And all who plot evil against me, speedily nullify their counsel and frustrate their plans. Let them be like chaff before the wind; let the angel of the L‑rd thrust them away. That Your beloved ones may be delivered, help with Your right hand and answer me. Do it for the sake of Your Name; do it for the sake of Your right hand; do it for the sake of Your Torah; do it for the sake of Your holiness. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You, L‑rd, my Strength and my Redeemer.

He who makes peace in His heights, may He make peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen.

May it be Your will, L‑rd our G‑d and G‑d of our fathers, that the Beis Hamikdash be speedily rebuilt in our days, and grant us our portion in Your Torah.

(Amen)

May the prayers and supplications of the entire House of Israel be accepted before their Father in heaven; and say, Amen. (Amen)

May there be abundant peace from heaven, and a good life for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen. (Amen)

He who makes peace (During the Ten Days of Teshuvah: the peace) in His heavens, may He make peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen. (Amen)

Hope in the L‑rd; be strong and let your heart be courageous, and hope in the L‑rd. There is none holy like the L‑rd, for there is none besides You, and there is no Rock like our G‑d. For who is G‑d except the L‑rd, and who is a Rock except our G‑d?
There is none like our G‑d; there is none like our L‑rd; there is none like our King; there is none like our Savior.
Who is like our G‑d? Who is like our L‑rd? Who is like our King? Who is like our Savior?
Let us give thanks to our G‑d; let us give thanks to our L‑rd; let us give thanks to our King; let us give thanks to our Savior.
Blessed is our G‑d; blessed is our L‑rd; blessed is our King; blessed is our Savior.
You are our G‑d; You are our L‑rd; You are our King; You are our Savior; You will save us.
You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to be gracious to her; the appointed time has come.
You are the L‑rd our G‑d and G‑d of our fathers, before whom our fathers burned the offering of the incense spices.
Talmud, Kereitot 6a,b. Yerushalmi, Yoma 4:5
The compounding of the incense: balm, onycha, galbanum and frankincense, each weighing seventy maneh; myrrh, cassia, spikenard and saffron, each weighing sixteen maneh; costus, twelve; aromatic bark, three; cinnamon, nine; Carshina lye, nine kav; Cyprus wine, three se'ah and three kav — and if he has no Cyprus wine, he brings strong white wine; salt of Sodom, a quarter kav; and a smoke-raising herb, a minute amount. Rabbi Nasan the Babylonian says: also a minute amount of Jordan amber. If he put honey into it, he rendered it unfit; and if he omitted any one of its spices, he is liable to death. Rabban Shimon ben Gamliel says: Balm is nothing but a resin that drips from the balsam trees. The Carshina lye was used to rub on the onycha to make it beautiful; the Cyprus wine was used to soak the onycha to make it pungent. Though urine is suitable for that, urine is not brought into the Beis Hamikdash out of respect.
Talmud, Megillah 28b
The school of Eliyahu taught: Whoever studies halachos every day is assured that he is destined for the World to Come, as it is said: “The ways of the world are his” — do not read halichos (ways), but halachos (laws).
Talmud, Berachot 64a
Rabbi Elazar said in the name of Rabbi Chanina: Torah scholars increase peace in the world, as it is said: “And all your children will be taught of the L‑rd, and great will be the peace of your children” — do not read banayich (your children), but bonayich (your builders). Those who love Your Torah have abundant peace, and there is no stumbling for them. May there be peace within your walls, tranquility within your palaces. For the sake of my brethren and friends, I ask that there be peace within you. For the sake of the House of the L‑rd our G‑d, I seek your good. The L‑rd will give strength to His people; the L‑rd will bless His people with peace.
★ Kaddish deRabbanan ★
The Rabbis' Kaddish
In the presence of a minyan, a mourner recites the Rabbis' Kaddish, as follows. In the following prayer the congregation responds with the phrases in parentheses:

Take three steps back; standing in one place, one bows to the right when saying “He who makes peace in His heights,” bows forward when saying “may He,” bows to the left when saying “make peace for us,” and bows to the front when saying “and for all Israel.”

(Amen)

(Amen) Beyond all the blessings, hymns, praises and consolations that are uttered in the world; and say, Amen. (Amen)

Upon Israel, upon our Sages, upon their disciples, upon all the disciples of their disciples, and upon all those who occupy themselves with the Torah, here and everywhere, may there be for them and for you abundant peace, grace, kindness and mercy, long life, ample sustenance and deliverance from their Father in heaven; and say, Amen. (Amen)

May there be abundant peace from heaven, and a good life for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen. (Amen)

He who makes peace (During the Ten Days of Teshuvah: the peace) in His heavens, may He make peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen. (Amen)

One should rise to recite the following prayer:
It is incumbent upon us to praise the Master of all things, to ascribe greatness to the Creator of the world in the beginning, that He has not made us like the nations of the lands, nor placed us like the families of the earth; that He has not assigned our portion like theirs, nor our lot like that of all their multitudes. For they bow to vanity and emptiness. But we bend the knee, bow down and give thanks before the King, the King of kings, the Holy One, blessed be He, who stretches out the heavens and establishes the earth, the seat of whose glory is in the heavens above, and the abode of whose might is in the loftiest heights. He is our G‑d; there is none else. Truly He is our King; there is nothing besides Him, as it is written in His Torah: “Know this day and take it to your heart that the L‑rd is G‑d in the heavens above and upon the earth below; there is none else.”
And therefore we hope to You, L‑rd our G‑d, soon to behold the glory of Your might, to remove idolatry from the earth, and the false gods will be utterly cut off, to perfect the world under the sovereignty of the Almighty. All mankind will call upon Your Name, to turn to You all the wicked of the earth. All the inhabitants of the world will recognize and know that to You every knee must bend, every tongue must swear allegiance. Before You, L‑rd our G‑d, they will bow and prostrate themselves, and give honor to the glory of Your Name; and they will all take upon themselves the yoke of Your kingship, and You will reign over them, soon, forever and ever. For the kingship is Yours, and to all eternity You will reign in glory, as it is written in Your Torah: “The L‑rd will reign forever and ever.” And it is said: “The L‑rd shall be King over the whole earth; on that day the L‑rd shall be One and His Name One.”

Do not fear sudden terror, nor the destruction of the wicked when it comes. Contrive a scheme, but it will be foiled; speak a word, but it will not stand, for G‑d is with us. Even to your old age I am the same; even to your hoary years I will carry you; I have made you and I will bear you; I will carry you and deliver you. Indeed, the righteous will give thanks to Your Name; the upright will dwell in Your presence.
Psalm 20 is said before one's daily portion of Tehillim (Psalms).
On the Shabbos before the New Moon — Shabbos Mevarchim — even before Rosh Hashanah, one should rise early in the morning to say Tehillim after the morning blessings but before the Shacharis service, and complete it by saying the Mourner's Kaddish. However, if one is observing a yahrzeit or is in mourning, the Mourner's Kaddish should be said after each of the five books of Tehillim.
Mourners should study Mishnayos at this time, followed by the Rabbis' Kaddish.
The following section relates to the rituals of the incense and the showbread that were presented in the Beis Hamikdash — the Holy Temple — by the Kohanim before the Musaf offering was made. In remembrance of this it is proper to recite the following verses relating to it, so that we can offer these offerings through prayer.
“You shall take fine flour and bake it into twelve loaves; each loaf shall be of two tenths of an ephah. You shall place them in two rows, six to a row, upon the pure table before the L‑rd. You shall put pure frankincense on each row, and it shall be for the bread as a remembrance, a fire-offering to the L‑rd. Each Shabbos day he shall arrange it before the L‑rd continually, from the children of Israel, an everlasting covenant. It shall belong to Aharon and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place, for it is most holy to him, from the fire-offerings of the L‑rd, an everlasting statute.”
★ The Six Remembrances ★
The Six Remembrances
It is commanded in the Torah that six events always be remembered. For this reason it is the ruling of some halachic authorities that the verses containing these commandments be recited daily.
[1] “So that you remember the day you went out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life.”
[2] “Only take heed and guard your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; make them known to your children and your children's children — the day you stood before the L‑rd your G‑d at Chorev.”
[3] “Remember what Amalek did to you on the way when you came out of Egypt; how he met you on the way and cut down all the stragglers at your rear when you were faint and weary, and he did not fear G‑d. Therefore, when the L‑rd your G‑d has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land which the L‑rd your G‑d gives you as an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from beneath the heavens; you shall not forget.”
[4] “Remember, do not forget, how you provoked the L‑rd your G‑d in the wilderness.”
[5] “Remember what the L‑rd your G‑d did to Miriam on the way when you came out of Egypt.”
[6] “Remember the Shabbos day to sanctify it.”
