The verse, “Hashem also became angry with me because of you,” is a parenthetical statement explaining why Yehoshua would “cause the Jewish people to inherit the Land.”

It must be understood why Rashi does not explain what the sin of the Waters of Strife has to do with the episode of the spies, as other commentators on the straightforward meaning of the Torah explain.

The answer is that this verse is a parenthetical statement intended to explain the difference between Kalev and Yehoshua.

Although both of them were exceptions to the decree against the generation of the spies, the Torah states only regarding Kalev that “he will see it” and “I will give it to him.” Regarding Yehoshua, however, it says, “He will cause the Jewish people to inherit it.”

The reason is that, in addition to the episode of the spies, there was also the matter of “Hashem also became angry with me.” Since Moshe would not enter Eretz Yisrael, Yehoshua would be the one to lead the Jewish people into the Land and cause them to inherit it.
