רַבֵּינוּ הַזָקֵן פִּירֵשׁ הַמַאמַר: כָּל הַמְקַיֵים נֶפֶשׁ אַחַת מְיִשְרָאֵל כְּאִלוּ קִיֵים עוֹלָם מָלֵא, אֹויף אַ אִידֶען דַארְף מֶען קוּקֶען וִוי עֶר שְׁטֵייט אִין מַחַשָׁבָה הַקְדוּמָה דְאַ"ק, (אָדָם קַדְמֹון) אוּן דָארְטֶען שְׁטֵייט יֶעדֶער נְשָׁמָה מִיט אַלֶע דֹורֹות וָואס קוּמֶען אַרֹויס פוּן אִיהר בִּיז בִּיאַת הַמָשִׁיחַ גֹואֵל צֶדֶק, אוּן אַז מֶען טוּט אַ אִידֶען אַ טֹובָה טוּט מֶען אַ טֹובָה אָט דִי אַלֶע נְשָׁמֹות עַד סֹוף כָּל הַדוֹרֹות.
On the 16th of Elul, the Alter Rebbe explained the saying: "Whoever sustains one Jewish soul is as if he sustained an entire world." Regarding a Jew, one must look at how he stands in the primordial thought of Adam Kadmon, and there every soul stands with all the generations that will come from it until the coming of Moshiach, the righteous redeemer. When you do a favor for a Jew, you are doing a favor for all those souls until the end of all generations.
