Yud Elul. From the directives of my father, my master, teacher, and Rebbe: One should refrain from waging a forceful battle to the very end—not because we lack the means to win or out of faintheartedness, but because all our energies must be dedicated solely and exclusively to strengthening our own structure—the structure of Torah and mitzvos in holiness and purity.
For this we must give over our souls with actual mesirus nefesh (self-sacrifice), not only in potential but in deed.
Summary
Hayom Yom teaches that true dedication means focusing all strength on building Torah and mitzvos with holiness and purity, rather than engaging in external conflicts. Real self-sacrifice is shown through action, not just intention.
