  1. 1 עי' בלקו"ש חל"ד שנוטה שם שבקביעות של' מנחם אב הוא בשבת אין תוקעים להתלמד ביום כט מנחם אב. עיי"ש

On the first of Menachem Av, from Rosh Chodesh we begin to say Ledovid Ori. The custom in the house of our Rebbe is that during the day one practices blowing the shofar to learn, and begins actually blowing after davening from the second day of Rosh Chodesh.

The Alter Rebbe would at first recite short maamarim. For example: Dibbur HaMaschil "Zecher Rav Tuvcha"—and its explanation—that in the Siddur it is said in six continuations—somewhat longer than what is printed.

Summary

Hayom Yom teaches us about preparing for Elul by adopting specific customs such as saying Ledovid Ori and practicing tekios. It also highlights how even great leaders like the Alter Rebbe began with short teachings before expanding on them.
