Tes-Vov Tishrei, the first day of the festival of Sukkos
When giving the four species to another person to recite the blessing over them, one should explicitly state that it is a “gift on condition of return,” especially on the first day. This is beneficial for both the giver and the recipient. My father instructed that one should begin the Shehecheyanu blessing while the lulav is in one hand and the esrog in the other. The verses beginning “Ki Amarti…” are said only on Hoshanah Rabbah. On this day, the blessing Leishev Basukkah is recited after Kiddush and not after the Hamotzi. The practice during Birchas Kohanim (as mentioned above for the second day of Rosh Hashanah): we know from this that the Alter Rebbe would take the Tzemach Tzedek, before his wedding, under his tallis for Birchas Kohanim.
