Menachem Mendel Einbund was a Jewish community member residing in Chicago, known for his involvement in charitable giving and connection with Chabad activities, as evidenced by his correspondence with the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson.
The Rebbe addressed Menachem Mendel Einbund with warm greetings and gratitude for his contribution to tzedakah (charity). The Rebbe detailed how Einbund’s donation was distributed: portions were allocated to Kollel Chabad and Yeshivah Toras Emes in Jerusalem, as well as Yeshivah Olei Russia in Lod. The remainder supported the Central Office’s work in North Africa, a region where Chabad had recently intensified efforts to provide kosher Jewish education to impoverished families, following the directive of the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe.
The Rebbe emphasized the impact of such support, noting the establishment of several yeshivos, Talmud Torahs, and cheders for both boys and girls in North Africa, and the ongoing success of these initiatives. He highlighted the importance of each dollar contributed, as it enabled more children to receive a proper Jewish education and strengthen their connection to Torah and mitzvos.
The Rebbe’s letter to Einbund was both appreciative and encouraging. In addition to acknowledging Einbund’s generosity, the Rebbe inquired about his regular Torah study and whether he maintained the custom, instituted by the Previous Rebbe, of reciting the daily portion of Tehillim after prayers. The Rebbe concluded with a blessing for long life, continued growth in Torah, mitzvos, and especially in the mitzvah of tzedakah, expressing a desire to hear further good news from him.
