Shalom u'Vrachah!
In such an important matter as shalom bayis (peace in the home), one must exhaust every possibility (especially since this is customary for Leah, and it is so). Both should visit a Rav who is a halachic authority, explain the situation to him, etc., and ask him for a Torah opinion. I will mention the names at the Tziyun.
