To the directors of the Shomrei Shabbos Gemilus Chassadim Society, may Hashem be upon them for life—Shalom u'Vrachah!
On the day concluding and sealing after Shabbos Parshas Matan Torah—which begins (the Torah) with gemilus chassadim and ends with gemilus chassadim—on Tuesday of Parshas Mishpatim—which begins (the parsha) with gemilus chassadim and ends with gemilus chassadim—I acknowledge receipt of your notice that on Motzaei Shabbos Parshas Im Kesef Talveh Es Ami, Parshas Shekalim—the society's annual gathering will take place during the Melaveh Malka meal, Seudasa d'David Malka Meshicha, as is your good custom each year. May it be in a good and successful hour and lead to good resolutions and their actual fulfillment; overall—to greatly increase all the society's activities from previous years.
Certainly, in accordance with the unique situation in your place, and based on our Sages' teaching: "The poor of your city come first" (including—even wealthy people who at that moment are poor)—there should be proper attention fitting the importance and greatness of the matter: giving charity whose purpose and results are to strengthen neighborhoods where Bnei Yisrael dwell (a proper dwelling—that is, together with a synagogue, study hall, kosher educational institutions, and charity organizations), true strengthening meaning also improvement and expansion in quantity and quality. Let this be done with great alacrity; as our Sages say: "Give him immediately."
Especially according to the explanation of Rabbeinu HaZaken that Avraham Avinu's wondrous alacrity was to show his joy and desire to fulfill his Creator's will and bring satisfaction to his Maker. From him our Sages learned regarding all mitzvos in general—and especially tzedakah which surpasses them all in protection and salvation.
May it be G‑d's will that such action—measure for measure but many times over—will hasten fulfillment of the verse: Elokim leHatzileni Hashem leEzrati Chusha... Elokim Chusha Li ("G‑d save me; L‑rd hurry to my aid... G‑d hurry for me")—to speed up the true and complete redemption through Moshiach Tzidkeinu speedily in our days.
