Shalom u'Vrachah! [Chanukah days 5727]
If on that morning he prays with a minyan, immerses in the mikveh, drinks but does not eat (until his return from the cemetery), gives charity before leaving, and studies a Torah subject—then this is proper and good.
This was written on the margin of the letter from Sunday, Parshas Vayigash 5727, in response to his question about whether to go pray at the resting place of the Rebbe Rayatz of righteous memory.
He should drink but not eat: see also above Vol. 3, Letter 1529. Sefer HaMinhagim-Chabad p. 96.
Summary
The Rebbe outlines spiritual preparations for visiting a tzaddik's resting place: prayer with a minyan, immersion in a mikveh, charity, Torah study, and refraining from eating until after returning—all enhance the experience's holiness.
