מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו
ומענין יום זה בו התחיל משה להתעסק עמהם (עם בנ"י) בענין קבלת התורה, אמר להו ואתם תהיו לי ממלכת כהנים -
וי"ל אשר פירש בזה כל שלש מעלות הטובות (כתרים) שנתנו לאומה זו בתחלת נתינת התורה: תהיו לי - שתהיו פנוין לי ועוסקים בתורה ולא תהיו עוסקין בדברים אחרים, ממלכת - מלכין קטירי כלילא, כהנים כהנין משמשין,
ובפרט בעת נתינת התורה - הי' כאו"א מבנ"י פנוי לה' ועוסק אך בתורה, כתרים בראשו וראוי לאכול בקדשים.
וההתחלה הייתה - חשק משה ועלה אל האלקים, ובאתערותא דלתתא אתערותא דלעילא, אשר תיכף ויקרא אליו ה' גו' ואתם תהיו לי ממלכת כהנים.
ויהי רצון אשר בימי סגולה אלה בחי' משרע"ה שישנה בכל נפש ונפש מבית ישראל תתעסק עמהם, עם כל כחות נפשו, בענין קבלת התורה, והם לא ימתינו לעצה ויאמרו למקטון ועד גדול כל אשר דבר ה' נעשה.
ומזה - לקיום מצות הגבלה ומצות פרישה והיו נכונים לנתינת התורה.
בברכה - בלשון הרב, הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר - לקבלת התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות,

כל שלש: ובזה מתורץ מה שלא הובא בש"ס אלא "ואתם גו' כהנים" - אמצע הדברים שאמר לבנ"י.
שלש... התורה: פיה"מ אבות פ"ד מי"ג (כן הוא בחלוקת המשניות בסידור אדה"ז). - ראה המשך תער"ב בתחלתו ששלש אלה הם בג' קווין ובד"ה קדוש אתה (המשך תרס"ו) שהם כתרים דכל סדר ההשתל'. - במשנה מסיים: וכתר שם טוב. וי"ל שזהו וגוי קדוש, וכפי' המכילתא: שנאמר ומי כעמך ישראל גו' - שזהו שבחן של ישראל (ברכות ו, א). ולא הובא בש"ס שבת, כמו שלא נכנס במנין במשנה אבות. ורמזו אדה"ז בהוספה תיבת "וגו'" אף שאינה בש"ס. ואכמ"ל.
שתהיו... אחרים: פי' המכילתא על "והייתם לי" שבפסוק שלפני זה.
מלכין... כהנין: תרגום יונתן כאן.
כתרים בראשו: שבת פח, א. ובסדר אלי' זוטא פ"ד מסיים: שנאמר ואתם תהיו לי ממלכת כהנים וגוי קדוש.
וראוי לאכול בקדשים: מכילתא.
וההתחלה הייתה: זח"ב עט, ב. אוה"ח כאן (ומדרשות חלוקות על מכילתא דרשב"י).

I acknowledge receipt of your letter and wish to share about this day, when Moshe began engaging with them (the Children of Israel) regarding receiving the Torah. He told them: "Ve'atem tihyu li mamlechet kohanim" ("And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests")—and it can be explained that in this he interpreted all three good qualities (crowns) given to this nation at the beginning of the giving of the Torah: "Tihyu li"—that you will be dedicated to Me and engaged in Torah, not occupied with other matters; "mamlechet"—kings crowned with a crown; "kohanim"—priests who serve. Especially at the time of giving the Torah, every individual among Israel was devoted to Hashem and engaged only in Torah, crowns upon their heads and worthy to eat sacred offerings.
The beginning was Moshe's desire as he ascended to G‑d; through an awakening from below came an awakening from Above, so that immediately "Vayikra elav Hashem... ve'atem tihyu li mamlechet kohanim" ("And Hashem called to him... and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests").
May it be G‑d's will that in these auspicious days, the aspect of Moshe Rabbeinu present in every soul of Israel will engage with them—with all their soul's powers—in receiving the Torah. They should not wait for advice but say from young to old: "Kol asher diber Hashem na'aseh" ("All that Hashem has spoken we will do"). From this comes fulfillment of the mitzvah of boundary-setting and separation: "Ve'hayu nechonim le'matan Torah" ("And they shall be ready for the giving of the Torah").
With blessing—in the language of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe—for receiving the Torah with joy and inwardness.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that each Jew possesses spiritual crowns received at Sinai—dedication, royalty, and service—and urges us to prepare ourselves wholeheartedly for receiving the Torah anew with joy and depth.
