Shalom u'Vrachah!

I acknowledge receipt of your book, Rambam on the Torah, and thank you for your attention in sending it to me.

May it be G‑d's will that you utilize the opportunities you have to spread traditional Judaism as clarified and according to the directives of our Torah of Life. Two main aspects are: instruction (Torah from the word 'hora'ah') in life, and Torah (which gives) life and serves as a guide so that life matches its name.

The main point in all this is practical action. In the words of our Sages: "Action is the main thing," meaning fulfillment of practical mitzvos, including their details—even minor ones from rabbinic decrees and Jewish customs—preceded by avoiding all forbidden or even undesirable things. Through this, a person (as it says: "You are called Adam") fulfills the purpose of creation, as it is written: "Let us make man in Our image, after Our likeness" (at the beginning and end of the section). Adam is named for "adameh laElyon" (I will resemble the Supreme), which is especially emphasized as an introduction to Matan Torah: "And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests." The service of priests also follows this order: washing (removing anything undesirable) at the laver before serving in holiness.

With honor and blessing.

P.S. Regarding Rambam on the Torah itself: It is understood that most of Rambam's views and commentary on Torah are not found in his halachic works but rather in his books and essays whose content deals with fundamentals of faith, explanations, etc. Thus, although for various reasons one must sometimes cite what is found in his halachic work Yad HaChazakah—since explanations there are also definitive halachah—primarily one should quote from his Moreh Nevuchim, his letters, and his commentary on Mishnayos. This suffices.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that spreading Judaism must be rooted in practical observance—fulfilling mitzvos meticulously and avoiding even minor prohibitions—so that our lives truly reflect their Divine purpose.
