בנועם קבלתי מכתבם מבשר טוב אשר ביום א' הבע"ל כ"ג שבט תתקיים חגיגה פומבית בקשר עם מסירת כתב רבנות עד מאה ועשרים שנה לכבוד רבם ומנהיגם הרוחני המפורסם והמצויין הרב דוד דוב שליט"א הולנדר.
קורת רוח מיוחדת גרמה לי הבשורה הנ"ל, שמחד - ראוי הוא הרב הולנדר לכל הכבוד והיקר הזה, ומאידך - שהצליחו השי"ת לכהן פאר בבית כנסת נכבד ולנהל על מימי התורה והמצוה קהילה חשובה ובעלת קומה, אשר מנהלי' וחברי' יודעים להעריך כדבעי את רבם ומנהלם הרוחני ומכירים בהצלחתם שזכו לרב ומנהיג כמוהו.
ובפרט בתקופתנו ומדינתנו זו, שלדאבוננו הגדול, רב בה טשטוש הגבולים והערכים עד, כלשון הנביא, שאומרים לרע טוב ולטוב רע, שמים חשך לאור ואור לחשך, שמים מר למתוק ומתוק למר (ישעי' ה, כ).
וכבר התריע כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר מיד בבואו לארצות הברית נגד הרעיון הנפרץ שבשקר יסודו כאילו אמריקה משונה מכל הארצות ושאינה מקום תורה ומצוה וכו'.
ואדרבה, לא רק ששלל בהחלט הנחה כוזבת זו, אלא הצביע על כמה מעלות טובות שיש לאחינו בני ישראל בארץ זו ואשר תנאי המקום וצו השעה מוכשרים ביותר מכמה בחינות, ומחייבים עבודה נרחבה בשטח הרבצת והחזקת התורה והמצווה וחינוך הכשר, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא ברצון ובמרץ ובשיתוף פעולה שבין הרבנים ומנהיגי הרוח עם עסקני הציבור והבעלי-בתים הנאמנים לתעודתם ותפקידם. וההישגים החשובים במשך עשרים השנה האחרונות הוכיחו שסיסמתו היתה מיוסדת ונתאמתה.
ברכתי שלוחה לרבם הנכבד בעל מרץ ורב פעלים הרב דוד דוב שליט"א הולנדר ולכל מנהלי ביהכ"נ ובני עדתם שיחיו, שילכו שכם אחד בדרך העולה בית א-ל לחזק ולבסס את קהילתם שתתאים בכל הפרטים לשמה המסורתי של קהילה
בישראל - "קהילא קדישא". וכמו שהדגיש רבינו הזקן בעל התניא והשולחן ערוך, אשר השנה היא שנת הק"נ להסתלקותו, שהרב ובני הקהילה הם בדוגמת ראש ושאר חלקי הגוף, שמובן שדוקא שניהם ביחד הם דבר שלם, גוף חי ופעיל בריא ושלם.
ועל יסוד הציווי ואהבת לרעך כמוך שהוא כלל גדול בתורה, תקותי חזקה שקהלתם תשמש דוגמא חי' ומקור השפעה טובה בשביל שאר בתי כנסיות ומהם יראו ויעשו. ויהי רצון שילכו מחיל אל חיל מתוך הרחבת הדעת ובשמחה ובטוב לבב.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
With pleasure I received your letter bearing good news that on the upcoming Sunday, the 23rd of Shevat, there will be a public celebration in connection with presenting a rabbinic certificate—may he live to 120 years—to your esteemed and distinguished rabbi and spiritual leader, Rabbi David Dov shlita Hollander.
This news gave me special satisfaction: on one hand, Rabbi Hollander is truly deserving of such honor and esteem; on the other hand, you have succeeded with G‑d's help in serving with distinction at an esteemed synagogue and leading an important and prominent community whose leaders and members properly value their rabbi and spiritual guide and recognize their good fortune in having such a leader.
This is especially significant in our times and country where, unfortunately, boundaries and values are greatly blurred—as the prophet says: they call evil good and good evil; they make darkness light and light darkness; they make bitter sweet and sweet bitter (Yeshayahu 5:20).
Already my father-in-law the Rebbe warned upon his arrival in America against the widespread but baseless idea that America is different from other lands or not a place for Torah and mitzvah observance. On the contrary—not only did he completely reject this false notion, but he pointed out many positive qualities among our Jewish brethren here. The local conditions and needs of the time are particularly suited for broad efforts in spreading and strengthening Torah observance and proper education. Success depends only on willpower, energy, and cooperation between rabbis, spiritual leaders, communal activists, and laypeople faithful to their mission. The significant achievements of the past twenty years have proven his slogan was well-founded.
I send my blessings to your esteemed rabbi—energetic and accomplished—Rabbi David Dov shlita Hollander, as well as to all synagogue leaders and congregants: may you proceed together on the path ascending to the House of G‑d to strengthen your community so it fully lives up to its traditional name among Jewish communities—a "Kehillah Kedoshah" (holy congregation).
As emphasized by our master the Alter Rebbe—author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch—whose yahrzeit year this is (the 150th since his passing): the rabbi and community members are like the head and other parts of a body; only together do they form a complete living organism—healthy and whole.
Based on the commandment "Ve'ahavta l'reiacha kamocha" (Love your fellow as yourself), which is a great principle in Torah, I strongly hope your community will serve as a living example—a source of positive influence for other synagogues who will see this model and follow it.
May it be G‑d's will that you go from strength to strength with expanded awareness, joy, and gladness of heart.
