Harav Yaakov Dov sheyichyeh
Shalom u'Vrachah!
I acknowledge receipt of your letter along with the sefer Be'er Yaakov on Maseches Yevamos and Kinnim. It presents an interesting approach to explaining words of Torah.
May it be G‑d's will that for many years you increase your strength in Torah to spread its study with explanation, understanding, and comprehension—both the revealed part of Torah and its inner dimension, which in our generation has been revealed through Chassidus. In this as well, the commandment in our times is to learn until one understands and comprehends, as explained in many places. See also Hilchos Talmud Torah by our master the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch, at the end of chapter 2 and there in chapter 1 at the end of section 4.
With honor and blessing.
P.S. As is my custom, I will add some comments: Even with diagrams one should strive—whenever possible—for a connection between the symbol and what is being symbolized. Accordingly, it would seem that for a symbol indicating prohibition it should be the opposite of the symbol for connection; seemingly, in your sefer the symbols for Yibum (levirate marriage) and prohibition are identical. For Chalitzah (release), there should be an element indicating a break—a line that is interrupted—whereas for Yibum it should be a connecting line (an unbroken line). Based on this, it is also understood that regarding marriage there is no place for a break in the line.
Additionally, from a completely different perspective: I do not see a square as fitting as a symbol (for male), since there was no square from the six days of creation.
Enclosed is a note which I hope will interest your honor sheyichyeh.
Rabbi Yaakov Dov: Kantor, Tel Aviv.
No square: see also above Vol. II Letter 360.
Enclosed note: Sichas Shabbos Parshas Chukas-Balak 5722 (printed in Likkutei Sichos Vol. II p.599ff).
Summary
The Rebbe encourages clarity and meaningful symbolism when teaching Torah concepts—even in diagrams—and stresses that both revealed and inner dimensions of Torah should be taught with understanding. Attention to detail enhances both comprehension and transmission of Torah wisdom.
