Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter. At an auspicious time, you will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal, in accordance with the content of your letter. Regarding your question about forgetfulness: the well-known advice according to the instruction of our Sages is "Chayim heim l'motza'ehem b'peh" (they are life to those who bring them out with their mouth)—to learn aloud—and it is best to do so with a partner in a manner of discussion and debate with a friend; all this helps memory.
Additionally, you should know by heart the maamar beginning "V'hadarta Pnei Zaken," at the end of Parshas Kedoshim in Likkutei Torah. Also, have your tefillin checked, and every weekday before prayer set aside a few coins for tzedakah.
At an auspicious time all those mentioned in your letter will be remembered at the holy resting place. It is understood that diligence and persistence in Torah study will increase Hashem's blessing for the fulfillment of all your heart's desires for good.
Blessings for good news in all the above on behalf of the Rebbe shlita. Mazkir (secretary).
P.S. Surely you are keeping up with the three daily study portions: Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya as is well known. See our Sages' instruction: Eruvin 54a.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that verbal Torah study—especially with a partner—reviewing Torah by heart, regular mitzvah observance like tzedakah and checking tefillin, and diligence in learning all strengthen memory and draw down blessings.
