מכתב כ' מיום י"ח כסלו נתקבל בעתו. בינתים ביקר כאן הרה"ג והרה"ח וו"ח אי"א עוסק בצ"צ וכו' מוה"ר מיכאל שי' ליפסקר ודברנו אתו בתוכן מכתב כ', וכבר חזר לאירופא ואחרי שיעשה שם איזה זמן יבקר במחנם בדרכו למקנס, ואולי כבר ביקר במחנם לעת קבלת מכתב זה.
ובהזדמנות זו, בעמדנו ערב ש"ק ר"ח שבט, אתאפק לא אוכל מלהזכיר יום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, בעשירי בשבט, אשר כל היודע פרק בדברי ימי עמנו במדינת רוסיא, ובפרט אלה שעלו משם, הרי יום זה מעורר אצלם זכרונות וחוויות נפשיים מתקופת המלחמה בעד קיום התורה והמצוות ומוסדות הדת תחת דגלו של בעל ההילולא אשר חרף נפשו בפועל ממש לשמור על ערכי עמנו וצורת חייו, במסירות נפש ממש יום יום. ובודאי ידועה לכ' פרשה מזהירה זו, על כל פנים בקוים כלליים. והרי כל ענין של זכרון בחיי היהודי תכליתו הוא שיביא הוספה במעשה, ובנידון דידן הוספה במעשה בהתאם להשקפת עולמו ומשאת נפשו של בעל ההילולא, זי"ע.

Your letter from the 18th of Kislev was received in its proper time. In the meantime, Haraha"g vavaha"ch vavac"h iy"a one involved with tzt"z etc. Moreinu HaRav Michael Lipsker visited here and we spoke with him about the content of your letter. He has already returned to Europe and after spending some time there will visit your camp on his way to Meknes, and perhaps by the time you receive this letter he has already visited your camp.
On this occasion, as we stand on the eve of Shabbat Rosh Chodesh Shevat, I cannot restrain myself from mentioning the yahrzeit of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal nevuga"m ziya", on the tenth of Shevat. Anyone who knows a bit about our people's history in Russia—especially those who came from there—this day awakens memories and deep emotions from that period of struggle for Torah and mitzvos and religious institutions under his leadership. He literally risked his life daily to safeguard our people's values and way of life with true mesirus nefesh (self-sacrifice). Surely you are aware of this illustrious chapter at least in broad strokes.
Every act of remembrance in a Jew's life is meant to lead to increased action; in this case, increased deeds aligned with the worldview and aspirations of the one whose yahrzeit it is—ziya.
