מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מיו"ד אייר והקודם לו דב' אייר. ות"ח על הבשו"ט מה שכותב מהטבת מצב התלמידים בהנוגע בלימוד תורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות, וכן מהטבת מצב אלו ששלח לי פ"נ בעדם. והשי"ת יצליחו גם על להבא לבשר תמיד אך טוב בגו"ר, מהנעשה בד' אמות שלו ובחלקו בעולם בכלל.
מ"ש אודות תוספת תלמידים.. בתו"ת דמאנטרעאל, הנה כבר ידוע הכתוב בפי' המשניות להרמב"ם ומובא בחסידות, אשר התינוק מושכים אותו ללימוד לא ע"י ציווים ועאכו"כ שלא בשבטים, אלא ע"י שנותנים לו ממתקים וכו', ודוקא כאלו שיש לו חוש בהם בהמצב שהוא נמצא אז, ולא על שם העתיד, אף שתינוק בכלל מסוגל הוא לענינים דקבלת עול וכפי' וכו'. ועאכו"כ בנדון דידן, שכן צ"ל הסדר...

I acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 10th of Iyar and the previous one from the 2nd of Iyar. Thank you for the good news you write regarding the improvement in the students' situation concerning their study of Nigleh Torah and Chassidus, as well as the improvement regarding those who sent me a pan (pidyon nefesh) on their behalf. May Hashem grant you continued success to always report only good tidings in all areas—both in your own domain and in your portion in the world at large.
Regarding what you wrote about increasing the number of students in Tomchei Tmimim Montreal: it is already known from the Rambam's commentary on the Mishnah, as brought in Chassidus, that a child is drawn to learning not through commands—and certainly not through threats—but by giving him sweets and similar things, specifically those he currently enjoys in his present state, not for some future reward, even though a child is generally receptive to matters of accepting authority and so on. All the more so in our case; this should be the approach... This letter was delayed.
In the meantime, I have sent: The sefer Vayaged L'Yaakov, letters from 14th and 18th of Cheshvan this year. And I await good news regarding your visit with Mr. Shazar. Thank you in advance.
