Shalom u'Vrachah!
After a long pause, your letter was received, in which you write about the Avrech... shiy', and your father's question regarding how to conduct himself with his aforementioned son.
It is understood that one should not be affected by what he says—that if he is not allowed to carry out his evil plan, G‑d forbid, he will do such-and-such—but rather explain to him that on the contrary, if G‑d forbid he carries out his evil plan, he is killing himself both in the World to Come and in this world, as well as the one through whom the stumbling block came; as is well known from our Sages of blessed memory on this matter.
However, it is necessary to speak with him words that come from the heart repeatedly, and also to ask my friends among the Avrechim that they too should influence him each in an appropriate manner.
Since it often happens as described above with sons because their fathers are not complete in fear of Hashem and observance of His commandments, this should be explained to the parents so that from now on they will conduct their daily lives according to the teachings of our Torah—the Torah of life—and fulfill its commandments about which it is said "and you shall live by them."
May it be G‑d's will that just as you brought up this request, so too you will bring good news regarding this matter.
Blessings.
In the name of the Lubavitcher Rebbe shlita.
If he is not allowed to carry out his plan: To marry a non-Jewish woman—he would kill himself. To take the drop: See Shulchan Aruch by our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe section 472 at its beginning: "And the Torah said etc." And in Rambam Hilchos Matza chapter 7 halacha 2: "It is a mitzvah to inform the children etc., as it says etc." According to this we understand the language of Mechilta (quoted in Sefer HaMitzvos of Rambam positive commandment 157) "I only have when he has a son"—which at first glance seems redundant. And this requires understanding.
Jewish children: This arouses above the matter of "For Israel is a youth and I love him," a verse spoken at the time of the Exodus from Egypt (see Sichos Pesach 5704; also in Siddur HaAriZal regarding "and here the son asks").
From every Jew: See Shulchan Aruch by our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe section 489 at its beginning.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that heartfelt guidance and personal spiritual growth are key when addressing challenges with one's children. Parental example and sincere words can inspire positive change both for children and within oneself.
