Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the end of Menachem Av, where you write about a sheitel (wig), and that in your religious environment it is not customary and you are embarrassed that people might laugh at you if you wear a sheitel.
Regarding the matter of wearing a sheitel, and not sufficing with a hat and scarf, the necessity for this is explained in several places. It is clearly seen that wearing a hat or even a scarf leaves part of the hair uncovered, at least for a short time. This means one transgresses the serious prohibition as ruled in Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim siman 75. The importance of this matter is also understood from the great reward for fulfilling this command as we were instructed, as stated in the Zohar HaKadosh: "He is blessed with all blessings above and below, with wealth, with children and grandchildren."
As for your writing that people might laugh at you and you will be embarrassed, etc., even among American youth lately there is a sense of respect specifically for those who stand firm in their views and are not embarrassed by those who mock them or their worldview. They look down upon those who follow the majority without any inner stability. Surely you know that each of the four sections of Shulchan Aruch begins: "And he should not be embarrassed before people who mock him in his service of Hashem."
Furthermore—and this too is clear and simple: Hashem says "I fill the heavens and the earth," so He is with a person everywhere at all times. In contrast, people—even those closest—are not always nearby. So how can it be that one would not be embarrassed before Hashem but would be embarrassed before flesh and blood?!
I hope that according to how you signed your letter—from your education—there is no need to elaborate further on this topic.
May Hashem, Who watches over every individual with Divine Providence—a fundamental principle of our faith as explained at length in the teachings of our master the Baal Shem Tov z"l (and this year marks two hundred years since his passing)—guide you well both materially and spiritually.
Blessings for good news and for being inscribed and sealed for good.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true modesty requires steadfastness even when facing social pressure or ridicule. One should prioritize G‑d's presence over human opinion, knowing that fulfilling mitzvos brings great spiritual reward.
