Haraha"g vavac"h iy"a Melachto Melachet Shamayim Chaim Shtein

Shalom u'Vrachah!

I hereby acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 22nd of Adar...

May it be G‑d's will that, as you concluded your letter, the statement of our Sages—which is also a directive—be fulfilled: "Torah scholars increase peace in the world," and may this be in a manner of continuously increasing, in accordance with the needs of the time.

This is especially relevant as we are at the close of the month of Adar and entering Nissan—redemption adjacent to redemption—and in both months the point is emphasized: bringing close and uniting all Jews with one another (see Tanchuma on Shemot 2:14; the reason for mishloach manot is brought in Shut Chatam Sofer).

With honor and blessing for good news.

...Regarding what you wrote about the ruling of Admor HaZaken in his Shulchan Oruch Orach Chaim 460:14 that it suffices for matzah to be guarded for "for the sake of 'you shall eat matzot'" and not necessarily "in the evening you shall eat matzot"—that according to this opinion there is a mitzvah to eat matzah all seven days (and so writes also Torah Sheleimah in his supplements to vol. 11 on Pesachim 40a)—I cannot say so. For Admor HaZaken's view (there at end of section 458) follows Rambam that there is no mitzvah at all except on the first night; this also appears from the plain wording of Rosh and Tur/Shulchan Aruch, even though they are those who hold the second opinion in section 460:14, as noted there in Maggid Mishneh. This also appears from Rambam Hilchot Chametz U'Matzah 5:9 (see there Maggid Mishneh and Tzafnat Paneach by Rogatchover). Whether in general regarding this matter there is a definition of "for its sake," and opinions about eating matzah all seven days—Torah Sheleimah discusses this at length there. This is not the place for it.

Summary

The Rebbe emphasizes increasing peace and unity among Jews as we transition from Adar to Nissan. He clarifies that according to Admor HaZaken and Rambam, there is a mitzvah to eat matzah only on the first night of Pesach, not throughout all seven days.
