Shalom u'Vrachah!
Through Haraha"ch iy"a nu"n engaged in tzt"z with many accomplishments etc. Yehudah Tzvi Fagelman, I have received a request for a blessing and a pan for you and your husband. At an auspicious time you will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal, for whatever you need.
Rabbi Fagelman also writes to me about what unfortunately happened with your son... may he rest in peace. The merit of what you and your husband have done and will do in matters of Judaism—and naturally also conducting yourselves according to the instructions of our holy Torah—will surely benefit his soul's elevation in Gan Eden. And it is self-evident that every additional strengthening of faith in Hashem Yisbarach—that what He does should not be overanalyzed—will add to the elevation of the soul.
It is certainly unnecessary to explain to you that the soul is never lost G‑d forbid; a Jew is eternal. The only difference is in the body—in other words, with physical eyes one cannot see the soul because there is no body visible. But the bond between parents and children is not through flesh but through being connected by the soul, which always remains whole. One can always act for the benefit and elevation of the soul as mentioned earlier—through Torah conduct and strengthening trust in Hashem Yisbarach—and with firm calmness and strong spirit that Hashem Yisbarach is the essence of good.
It would be appropriate to have your husband's tefillin checked (inspected) as well as the mezuzos in your home to ensure they are kosher according to halachah. Additionally, besides certainly keeping up the good custom of Jewish daughters to give charity before lighting candles on Erev Shabbos and Erev Yom Tov, you should also give some cents to charity on Mondays and Thursdays during weekdays. Most importantly—as mentioned above—stop overthinking things; when you make a firm resolution about this, Hashem Yisbarach will grant you success in realizing it in life.
With blessings for good news,
In the name of my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita
Mazkir
Summary
The Rebbe offers comfort after loss by emphasizing faith in G‑d's goodness and practical mitzvah observance as ways to elevate a departed soul. He encourages checking tefillin and mezuzos, giving extra charity, and maintaining inner strength through trust in Hashem.
