In response to your letter from Monday with its attachment.

At an auspicious time, you and your family will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal, for what you wrote.

Regarding what you wrote about surgery on the tubes—it does not seem appropriate to me at all; this almost entirely eliminates the possibility of pregnancy.

As for other suggestions you mention, it seems your intention is to prevent pregnancy; in this matter you should consult a rabbinic authority and present to him exactly what the doctor said.

However, it should be noted that often—even when there is what is called blood incompatibility—this does not affect the children at all. It also happens that before birth the situation improves etc. In our case, since you write that your wife has certain difficulties etc., it is possible to explain these matters as you wrote them without relating them to blood issues. The practical difference is clear: if your wife strengthens her health, there is reason to say that all concerns in this matter will be nullified.

In every situation and at all times we are commanded to ascend in holiness—to increase in Torah and mitzvos—especially when additional blessing is needed from the Giver of Torah and mitzvos. Therefore it is appropriate that you and your wife increase in these areas according to your circumstances—most importantly I wish to arouse you regarding the necessity of establishing study in the inner dimension of Torah as revealed in Chassidus. If this was always necessary everywhere, how much more so in our era and country.

It is proper that you check your tefillin as well as the mezuzos in your home so they are all kosher according to halachah. Also, your wife should maintain the good custom of Jewish women—to give tzedakah before lighting candles every Friday afternoon and before Yom Tov.

Blessings for good news in all mentioned above, in the name of my revered father-in-law the Rebbe shlita.

Mentioning blood incompatibility: When our eldest son was born we learned that my wife's blood was incompatible with mine—what they call "R-H factor"—and this incompatibility can sometimes unfortunately harm children who are born.
