In addition to the phone message I received about your safe return from your travels, I was pleased to receive your letter describing your journey in more detail. It also included the joyful news that you succeeded in publishing your father's manuscript of blessed memory. May it be G‑d's will that He fulfill the wishes of your heart for good so you can bring it to print and succeed as well in your activities, as we discussed—that you should act to the greatest extent possible to influence fellow Jews so they will want to study such a book and then be able to understand it, since nothing stands in the way of willpower. Unlike earlier years when one had to bring such Jews from overseas, now they are local-born. There is a strong presumption that outreach does not return empty-handed—especially when outreach is joined by practical action.

Regarding what you wrote at the end of your letter about the fears of our fellow Jews in the Soviet Union and doubts concerning their future there: my faith is clear that an increase in Judaism in the United States—in the spirit of Torah and tradition—must also have an effect there. For regarding spirituality, physical boundaries and distance do not separate; especially since all Israel is one unified entity. Just as with a physical body—when one limb is strengthened (and certainly several), this must bring strength to all other limbs and vitality to the entire body. So too, when vitality is added to Judaism in America—in matters of Torah, which is a Torah of life, and its mitzvos about which it is written "and you shall live by them"—and especially since American Jewry now constitutes an important part of the Jewish people as a whole—this must bring strength to all our fellow Jews wherever they are—even those behind the Iron Curtain. Especially according to our Sages' saying: even a barrier of iron cannot separate between Israel and their Father in Heaven.

In connection with the days of redemption—the 12th–13th of Tammuz—I am enclosing a booklet about those days. Although you surely know about the general topic, you will certainly find interesting details within.
