בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מכ"ב שבט, בו מודיע ת"ל בעד הצלת בתו ומשפחתה שיחיו.
ויהי רצון אשר יוכל תמיד לבשר בשורות טובות הן בהנוגע לו לעצמו והן בנוגע לכל בני ביתו שיחיו. ובטח למותר להעיר שימת לבבו אשר עליו להסביר לבתו ומשפחתה שי' את החסד הגדול אשר עשה השי"ת עמהם, שבפרט זה רואים השגחה פרטית בעיני בשר ובאופן שאין מקום לכל תירוצים וכו' ואשר לכן גם עליהם להביא קרבן תודה, היינו להוסיף אומץ בתורה ובמצות בכל הפרטים וגם כן למעלה ממה שנדמה להם שזהו ביכולתם בדרך הטבע שזה מתאים למה שהראם השי"ת ג"כ נס למעלה מדרך הטבע, ויעוין במפרשים על קאפיטל ק"ז בתהלים שזהו קאפיטל ההודאה המסיים ויתבוננו חסדי ה'.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
I was pleased to receive your letter from the 22nd of Shevat, in which you thankfully report the salvation of your daughter and her family, may they live.
May it be G‑d's will that you will always be able to share good news, both regarding yourself and all members of your household, may they live.
Certainly it is unnecessary to point out that you should explain to your daughter and her family the great kindness that the Holy One, blessed be He, has done for them. In this particular matter one can see Divine Providence with one's own eyes in a way that leaves no room for excuses or rationalizations, etc. Therefore, they too should bring a thanksgiving offering—that is, increase their strength in Torah and mitzvos in every detail, even beyond what they think is naturally possible. This corresponds to the fact that Hashem also showed them a miracle beyond the natural order. See the commentaries on Psalm 107 in Tehillim—this is the chapter of thanksgiving which concludes: 'VeYisbonenu Chasdei Hashem' ("Let them contemplate the kindnesses of Hashem").
Enclosed is a transcript of what I said before the yeshivah students this past Chanukah; its content truly applies to every Jew—especially those dedicated to Torah—and throughout the entire year.
