עס האט מיך געפריינט צו לייענען אין אייער בריף אז איר זייט שטארק אין בטחון בהשי"ת און איך האף אז בקרוב וועט איר אויך קענען זעהען די פארווירקליכונג פון אייער בטחון בנוגע צו אייערע עסקים בפועל ממש.
עס וואונדערט מיר אבער, וויבאלד אז איר האט בטחון בהשי"ת בנוגע גשמיות ופרנסה, איז דאך מכל שכן וקל וחומר אז מען דארף זיין שטארק אין בטחון בהשי"ת בנוגע צו קינדער און זייער אויפפירונג, וואס דאס איז דאך וואס רירט אן א אידען מער ווי ענינים גשמיים, און איר ווען איר קומט צו דעם ענין, שרייבט איר אין אייער בריף, אז איר טרייסט זיך דערמיט וואס זיי זיינען בעסער פון אנדערע וכו'.
זיכער האט איר געהערט פון דעם טייטש - וועלכער ווערט געבראכט אין פיל ספרים - אויף דעם אויסשפראך, בשמים ממעל ועל הארץ מתחת, אז ווען מען קומט צו עניני שמים וועלכע זיינען פארבונדען מיט השי"ת און קדושה, דארף מען זעהען דעם ממעל, ארויפקוקען צו העכערע מענשן און זעהען שטייגען צו זיי, ועל הארץ מתחת, אז בא ענינים גשמיים, דארפמען קוקען אראפ, וואס עס טוט זיך בא די נידעריגערע פון עם, וואס אזא איינשטעלונג בריינגט צו, אז מען איז א שמח בחלקו, וואס דענסטמאל איז מען דער אמת'ר עשיר - איזהו עשיר השמח בחלקו -
עס איז איבעריג צו אונטערשטרייכען, אז ליובאוויטש בכלל און איך בפרט, זיינען ניט קיין מוסר זאגער אן א תכלית, און מיין כוונה מיטן שרייבען די אויבענדערמאנטע שורות איז א דאפעלטע, א) ביישטייערען וואס איך קאן צו [אייער] תוקף הבטחון אז השי"ת זאל אייך געבען פרנסה און גוטען געזונט, ב) נאך אמאל ווידערהאלען וואס איך האב גערעט מיט אייך ווען איר זייט געווען דא, ניט צו מיד ווערען ריידען מיט די קינדער אייערע בנוגע צו זייער אויפפירונג אין ענינים פון תורה ומצות, ודברי חכמים - ובפרט ווען זיי זיינען - בנחת, נשמעים.

I received your letter from the second of Yisro in due time, and my response was delayed because of the yahrzeit of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal, the preparations for the yahrzeit and matters connected to it even afterwards. May Hashem help each of us fulfill the mission that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, instructed and laid out the path we should follow—the path of Torah and mitzvos themselves. For even in this path of Torah and mitzvos themselves, the yetzer hara finds ways to weaken and hinder one's progress in it.
I was pleased to read in your letter that you are strong in trust in Hashem (bitachon), and I hope that soon you will also be able to see the fulfillment of your bitachon regarding your business matters in actual reality.
However, I am surprised: since you have bitachon in Hashem regarding material matters and livelihood, then all the more so you should be strong in bitachon regarding children and their upbringing—for this touches a Jew more than material matters. Yet when you come to this topic, you write in your letter that you console yourself with the fact that they are better than others, etc.
Surely you have heard the explanation—which is brought in many sefarim—of the phrase 'BaShamayim MiMa'al v'Al HaAretz MiTachas' ("In heaven above and on earth below"): when it comes to heavenly matters connected with Hashem and holiness, one should look up to those higher than oneself and strive to rise toward them; but regarding material matters ('on earth below'), one should look down at those lower than oneself. Such an attitude brings a person to be happy with his lot—which is true wealth: 'Who is rich? One who is happy with his portion.'
It is superfluous to emphasize that Lubavitch in general—and I personally—are not preachers without purpose. My intention in writing these lines above is twofold: a) To contribute what I can to strengthen your bitachon so that Hashem will grant you livelihood and good health; b) To again repeat what I spoke with you when you were here—not to tire from speaking with your children about their conduct concerning Torah and mitzvos. And as our sages say—especially when words are spoken calmly—they are accepted.

The Rebbe teaches us to strengthen our trust in G‑d not only for material needs but especially for our children's spiritual growth. Calmly guiding them about Torah values is vital; true wealth lies in being content with one's portion while striving higher spiritually.
