...d) Regarding what you wrote in your letter during the days of the Festival of Redemption, that you wish to participate personally in my maamad and hope to go from constraint to expansiveness, etc., surely you know that I do not accept maamad money for various reasons. Therefore, the checks you sent are being held until you inform me what to do with them. It is self-understood that regarding going out from constraint to expansiveness, my intention is desirable and may it be G‑d's will that very soon and speedily in our days Hashem will bring you out from constraint to expansiveness—from physical limitations and boundaries to actual physical expansiveness—and also that you yourself will bring yourself out in those matters dependent on you from constraint to expansiveness spiritually as well. Surely you have heard the saying of my father-in-law the Rebbe in the name of his grandfather the Rebbe Maharash: 'The world says if you can't go under, you must go over; but I say one must lechatchila go over.' And this depends only on one's own strength—as was discussed at the farbrengen of Yud-Beis Tammuz—that strength and self-nullification are themselves the tools to overcome all concealments, obstacles, and hindrances. Then one sees it is only a test. It is self-understood that this brings pleasure into one's service...
